Hi All
Recently got this dependable data; still no date of birth. Have tried all I can think of to find further details of her (Josie/Josephine/ Josephene)death to possibly lead to birth date.
1940 US FED Census last known residence: 214th Street, Queens, NYC.
Her husband, Antonino Lanzarone, owned a barber shop and a dress making shop.
Any help appreciated!
Best to all,
BlissIs

Re: Giuseppa Favara Lanzarone Died 26 Feb 1971 NYS
You have her name, her place of birth (Castelvetrano), and presumably her approximate year of birth (since you have census records on her). I don't believe birth records from Castelvetrano are online, but have you tried viewing at a Family History Center microfilm of Castelvetrano births from the appropriate year range to look for her birth record?
Have you look for naturalization records for either Giuseppa or Antonino? How about passenger records?

Thanks Carubia
Family history records do not cover her range of birth or for her hometown. I forget exaclty what was missing but not a resource.

Yes, have naturalization papers for Antonino; no date of birth for his wife. I am not certain but do think wives were automatically made citizens when husbands were naturalized.

This was true in the US only up to Sep 1922.BlissIs wrote:YI am not certain but do think wives were automatically made citizens when husbands were naturalized.

Appreciate your depth of detail, Carubia. Antonino's Declaration dated July 1911. Naturalization 15 Feb 1915. NYS Census shows both Antonino (barb3r) and Giuseppa as citizens.
ahhh You've delivered me to something else though!
Giuseppa from Castelvetrano resides 115 Ellery St., Brooklyn
Then the children's entries (exact dates of birth!): Baldasarre (Benj) Nov 4, 1911 and Grazia June 9, 1909, "Both born in Brooklyn, NY but both reside at 115 Ellery St., Brooklyn, NY."
The children's dates of birth approx. yrs. of birth varied over censuses....unless one had died and another assumed name.
hmmm did people give birth in hospitals then? Why distinction when both are 'Brooklyn'? Of any use?
Witnesses: Anthony Liotto barber, residing 183 Stuyvesant Ave., Brooklyn, NY
Domenico Saitta, boot black, resides 519 Marcy Ave., Brooklyn, NY
