Seeking Alfonso Bergamo family commune

Post by jbergamo »

Searching for commune my grandfather and grandmother came from in Italy. Most of our family have passed on so there is no family information we can gather.

Grandfather. Alfonso Bergamo 1886. Immigrated 1894
Grandmother. Josephina Bergamo. 1876 immigrated 1888
Can't find them on any passenger list. Alfonso had a close relative who lived in Brooklyn , Kings , New York.
Ermelinda Bergamo 1886-1978
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Already searched Sant Angelo Sei Lombardi with no success
Thanks

abt my reply on Erme4linda Bergamo, now I believe that is the wrong Ermelinda, that because I found that Ermelinda Bergamo related to Alfonso Bergamo, well.. she was married at Edward DILOLLO or LOLLO ( or Lullo) .. Ermelinda changed the her first name in Emma; here the 1940 census

Emma Lollo

United States Census, 1940

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... cc=1861144

abt Frank Bergamo, uncle of Ermelinda Lollo/Lullo nee Bergamo, well he was born in Oliveto Citra ( Salerno province, IT)

Frank G. Bergamo

Illinois Deaths and Stillbirths

Name: Frank G. Bergamo
Event Date: 24 Feb 1942
Event Place: Chicago, Cook, Illinois
Gender: Male
Age: 79
Birth Year (Estimated): 1863
Birth Date: 18 Dec 1862
Birthplace: Olivito City, Italy
Father's Name: Vincenzo Bergamo
Father's Birthplace: Olivito City, Italy
Mother's Name: Rosa Cappetta
Mother's Birthplace: Olivito, City, Italy

Occupation: Barber
Burial Date: 28 Feb 1942
Burial Place: Proviso, Cook, Illinois

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N3HJ-ZH6
also Lullo surname is a popular surname in Oliveto Citra... seeming that the right Birth area is Salerno province and no Avellino province.... just a suggestion

Suanj,
We think this might be our family Ermelinda Bergamo. She married Edward DiLollo in New York 1910.
Born in 1886 and died 1978.

Alfonso Bergamo married his brothers daughter Josephine. In the 1925 NY census her mother Flora was living with her, age 64. Could this have been Filomena?

yes, Flora was the version of italian Fiorentina ... Fiorentina can be translated as Florence in english, she used Flora.... same meaning... so we know that this family coming from Oliveto Citra.. now when you say that Alfonso married at " his brothers daughter Josephine " you mean that Josephine was Alfonso niece? She could be Giuseppa Bergamo sister of Ermelinda??
Giuseppa in english is Josephine...

Yes, Josephine was Alfonso's niece. We have always wondered if Elmelinda and Josephine were sisters. Or if Alfonso had brothers who had Elmelinda. ( by the way Elmelinda is how the family spelled her name) Frank Bergamo is Elmelinda uncle is he possibly Alfonso brother?
