Santo Bottini Early California
Santo Bottini Early California
My great grandfather died when my grandfather was a baby. I am looking for information on where he came from and his Italian ancestors. His name was Santo Bottini. His grave says he was born 20 May 1870 a casa Belloni, Italia. I want to know what this means. He was married to Giulia Ghiozzi when he died but they were married in the US. He drowned 01 Jan 1903 in Healdsburg, Ca. crossing a river. My grandfather thought his father's family was from Piedmonte region. Any help would be appreciated. I think he came to the US around 1887. He purchased a ranch in Healdsburg, CA.

There seems to be a place called Casa Belloni in Italy which looks like it's right on the boarder of Piedmont and Lombardy: https://www.google.com/maps/place/27052 ... ff679b7aa9
Interestingly, it's very near to a place called Casalnoceto and one called Casalvecchio, and I noticed on this passenger list it says last residence was Casal-something: http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse. ... urce=60525
Name: Sante Bottini
Arrival Date: 4 Sep 1897
Birth Date: abt 1870
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Ethnicity/ Nationality: Italian
Port of Departure: Havre
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: La Touraine
Also, the final destination says San Francisco, California - which kind of fits with him living in Healdsburg, CA.
So that might be his immigration but I would look into it further before confirming.

Hi Robin
There is also the record for one Sante Bottini arriving in the US 1888 and born about 1871
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KD4M-Z2N
It could be the same person, because in the 1897 record it is written that he resided in the US ten years 1888-1897
Ciao
