Missing death record

Post by Robin B Mc »

According to these three marriage processetti of his children, Agostino Majorano died 1828 in Pettorano, right?

But when I go to the 1828 death records in Pettorano, he's not there:

He's not in the index, and I looked through all the records just in case he was missed from the index and his death record isn't there. Anyone have any clues as to what's going on? The only things I can think of are that the year was copied wrong, or some of the 1828 records are missing.

The second one says he was living in Sulmona, the 3rd one is from the Comune of Sulmona saying they had notice of his death from Pettorano.

Two possibilities, not the only possibilities though:

1 - he died in a frazione of Pettorano with its own registry.
2 - his death was still registered in Sulmona. I have had cases where an ancestor in the early 1800s died in 1 town, and yet the town of his residence still registered the death.
TIP: When asking for records from Italy, do NOT ask for an "estratto." ALWAYS ask for a "copia integrale." A photocopy of the original Act will contain more information

Thanks but I had actually first checked Sulmona before I noticed the mention of Pettorano - here's the index for deaths in Sulmona in 1828 and as you can see, there's no Agostino Majorano:

And if he died in Sulmona than why does even the first one seem to talk about a letter from Pettorano about his death?

Thanks, do you know where I might find records for any frazione of Pettorano?

Have you checked (or found) Parte II of the records. He died outside of his town of residence so he wouldn't be with the regular records.

He died in L'Aquila who would have notified Pettorano since that is where he was born. Pettorano would then have forwarded the information to Sulmona which is where he was living at the time of his death.
