Hi, Livio!liviomoreno wrote:The surname written in the manifest, is Napodano.
Enlarged the image considerably, and I believe it is actually a "write-over" - and "r" was written over what was there.
Not sure it is a "d" as the "d" in Ferdinando appears to be different.
Will wait for the poster to confirm the age and place of residence to be sure.
Thanks for the backup

I am so thankful to you! I really appreciate this! Interesting because I thought he came over with his wife, Carolina, but she must have come here later with her children. You are wonderful. Thank you again!

Glad to help!
Do you know Carolina Naporana's maiden name? That is how she would have traveled.

Yes! It was Caralina Orlando DeGiuseppi. Fingers crossed! Thank you!
Re: Ship Manifest for the Iniziativa 1890 Naples to NY
I just want to point out that Ferdinando was not from Conegliano. He was from Corbara (province of Salerno). In the manifest I read "Napodano". I also want to add I personally know several Napolano and Napodano from that area. Naporano seems to be a vary uncommon surname (only one occurrence in White Pages).

Re: Ship Manifest for the Iniziativa 1890 Naples to NY
I did notice "Corbara" as what was stated as their son's birthplace on his "Declaration for Intention", when he became Naturalized. So that does coincide with what you say. So thank you for confirming that! Interesting about the surname! I'd love to find out if we are are related to the "Napadano" family or the Napalano family? The surname might have changed to "Naparano" when they came to America?? Thank you so much for continuing to help me, it is greatly appreciated!

Here is a POSSIBLE arrival manifest for Carolina Orlando De Giuseppi
Arrival on 2 April 1891 (same day and month as on John's naturalization, but one year off)
Sailing on SS. Burgundia from Naples.
Scroll toward the very bottom...
She is listed on line 410 as Caterina Orlando, age 34, from Corbara.
She has traveling with her five children"
Antonio, 16
Celeste, 13
Alfonso, 8
Giuseppe, 7
Giovanni, 4

In consideration of the Italian "rule" for naming of the children, this MIGHT be your Ferdinando:
Napodano Ferdinando
Classe: 1853
Comune di nascita: Corbara
Napodano Ferdinando di Antonio e Francavilla Celeste nato il 11\10\1852 a Corbara di professione boscaiuolo (woodman)
(from enrollment lists at Archivio di Stato di Salerno)
Napodano Ferdinando
Classe: 1853
Comune di nascita: Corbara
Napodano Ferdinando di Antonio e Francavilla Celeste nato il 11\10\1852 a Corbara di professione boscaiuolo (woodman)
(from enrollment lists at Archivio di Stato di Salerno)

Re: Ship Manifest for the Iniziativa 1890 Naples to NY
I found this travel of one Ferdinando Napodano from Corbara (leaving mother Celeste) to Brooklyn (joining wife Carolina) in Dec 1907:

One more clue it's the right one.
