Colognori

Post by MichaelSerchio »

Hello,

My name is Michael and I live in Glasgow, Scotland.

My great grand-father was Andrea Colognori. He was born in Tuscany, Italy, possibly near Barga or Lucca around 1875. He had a brother called Enea Colognori who was born around 1882. I believe their parents were called Giuseppe Colognori and Cesira Simonini and they both lived in Italy for their entire lives. Andrea and Enea moved to Scotland and Enea then moved on to the USA.

I am looking for information on Andrea and Enea and their parents and perhaps any other siblings they had.

I am considering a trip to Tuscany next month to search for records that may give some clues but I am not sure where I would start.

Can anyone offer any information or advice that would be of use?

Thank you,
Michael

Hello,
here there is the manifest ship of Enea Colognori

http://ellisisland.org/search/shipManif ... 0721%2ETIF

You can see their place of birth in their cemetery or death record.

If you want to get some civil records, from Barga contact the following addresses:

Piazza Garibaldi

Italy

urp@comunedibarga.it <urp@comunedibarga.it>

Archivio di Stato di Lucca

Thank you very much for your quick replies. This information is very helpful.

I am also looking for the birth records for Andrea and Enea and perhaps the marriage record of their parents Giuseppe and Cesira. I am also curious to find out if Andrea and Enea had any other brothers or sisters. Will this information be available from the Ufficio di Stato Civile in Barga or is there some other way to gather this information (I don't mind paying for it)?

Please note... there should be another ship record for Enea which may confirm the place of birth... (since it could be near Barga or Lucca...) so... I wouldn't write to Italy just yet...

Searching through other Colognori manifests at www.ellisisland.org is a good way to look for siblings...

Once the place of birth is confirmed, you could research from film at a Family History Center in your area...

We need to find his first manifest...

You can request civil record (birth, marriage and death) to Ufficio di Stato Civile in Barga, and to Archivio di Stato di Lucca.
To get the records at least you need to know the approx. year of that civil record you are looking for.
For example, once you find Andrea or Enea birth record, there you get their parents name and age, so you can get their parents birth record (if available)
Sometimes there are also 10 year index of birth, marriage and death.
It will help you finding what you are looking for.
I hope it helps

Thank you all for your help and information. I have been able to contact a living descendant of Enea who lives in the USA and we are sharing information.

I have since found information on an Aldo Colognori, born 13 Jan 1906 in Barga, Italy and died 2 Aug 2002 in Pennsylvania, USA. I believe he arrived in the USA on 8 Sep 1922 at the age of 16.

Andrea (b.1875) and Enea (b.1882) were both also from Barga and I am quite sure they would be related in some way to Aldo. Anyone have any ideas on how I could find this out?

There was also a Fedele Colognori (b.1884) who arrived in the USA on Jun 29, 1907 aged 23 but can find no more information on him.

You can research from film at a Family History Center in Scotland, since film is available. It is very inexpensive.

Hi Michael
as a fellow Scot and Barghigiano I think I have some answers for you.
I have extracts of Barga Baptisms through the Barga Genealogy Group and I can tell you Giuseppe Colognori and Cesira Simonini are down as having 4 children:
Arturo Luciano Andrea Iacopo Jan 11, 1873
Andrea Simone Iacopo Oct 29, 1874
Umberto Antonio Iacopo Jan 20, 1878
Enea Iacopo Nerone Jun 24, 1881
These records also show the fathers names of the parents.
Let me know how else I can help if these are the right people
Regards

They do indeed appear to be the brothers of my great-grand father.

I have sent you a reply via private message.

Thanks,

Hi Roberto, I haven't received a reply from you so I thought I would post here again.

The information you have given me has also been confirmed from another source and I nowknow that Giuseppe Colognori and Cesira Simonini had four sons as you said: Arturo, Andra (my great-grandfather), Umberto and Enea. I have been able to make contact with Enea's descendants who live in Virgina, USA. I believe (mainly by guessing) that Umberto had a son Fernando who moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil. I have no information on Arturo. Did you say that had the names of Giuseppe and Cesira's fathers? If so, could you let me know?

I know there was a Luigi Colognori born on 28 May 1882. His father's name is given as John so it could be Giovanni. It is quite possible that Giuseppe and Giovanni were brothers perhaps?

I also know of a Louis Colognori born 1893 who married a woman called Manuela but that is all I know of him.

If you have any other information which you think may help then please do contact me either in a reply here on in private message. Thank you.
