I think you are absolutely correct. We had a couple of Alfonso's in my family that I can remember. I am trying to search the Napoli resource Italysearcher linked but so far not turning up much.suanj wrote:James named the oldest son as his father, Alphonso ( =Alfonso): the marriage record is right... on 1910 census also the James birthyear is wrong... but that is a normal error on these records.. the problem, now, is to find the italian birthplace....

I think I found their ship manifest. The last name is Gaudino and Guiseppe (James) is with his mom Maddalena and dad Alfonso. Unfortunately not a ton of info on the manifest. Can anyone help find additional info, or have an idea how to search Naples records?amarino81 wrote:suanj wrote:James named the oldest son as his father, Alphonso ( =Alfonso): the marriage record is right... on 1910 census also the James birthyear is wrong... but that is a normal error on these records.. the problem, now, is to find the italian birthplace....

this is the ship's manifest.. the transcription of surname depend from website.. but it is necessary always a direct reading, and I am sure that is your ancestor arrival..suanj wrote:The arrival of the Gandino ( or Gaudino) family:

I believe right family...
best,

I found a census from 1900 which has an Alfonso Gandino, born around 1839. He is older and lives with his wife (her name is very hard to read), born around 1844 and 1 child (of 6 total). Think this matches the Alfonso you found?suanj wrote:No! This is another person, your ancestor was born on 1871... birthplace...unknown... father Alfonso and mother maddalena nee Gagliardi no Bavaro... I also seen this record, but it is no your ancestor...
