Surname - RATTAZZI in VERMONT, USA

Post by KSRattazzi »

It's been awhile since I posted in here but have a little bit more information.

In the 1910 United States Federal Census, it lists my grandfather (Attilio Rattazzi), his father (Carlo, but they called him "Charles") and his mother (Eliza Rattazzi).

My first problem is that Vermont has no paperwork on her death, but I do know that she died here in the states.

My second problem is that on this census she lists that she had two children in America but only one was still living. My grandfather told my mother that there was a baby that died.

... I'm desperately trying to find out her (Eliza Rattazzi's) maiden name. Any angles you think I should take here?

Hi There,

I found this manifest that could be your Carlo.

http://ellisisland.org/search/shipManif ... 2188020156

I found this on the Ancestry.com World trees

Attilio Rattazzi b: 7 OCT 1898 in Bavano, Novara, Italy

Do you know the death date of Carlo? If you do, send for his death certificate. It will list the cemtery he is in. Once you find out the cemetery, call and ask who is all buried in the plot.

I hope some of this helps.

Hi Again,

If that is your family above from the World Tree, then the Family History Center has microfilm for both towns but it's limited from 1866-1910. The microfilm costs $5.75 a roll.

Here is the correct spelling of the towns and the microfilm numbers.

Baveno

Oleggio
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... =1&last=50

I do hope this helps some.

Hi Again,

Found something else. Here is the WWI Dreaft Card for Caro. Per this Draft Card, he is already married to Leonarda. Hopefully someone could post it to show you the wife's name. If this is the case, then Eliza died between 1910 and 1918

Name: Carlo Rottazzi
City: Not Stated
County: Washington
State: Vermont
Birth Date: 7 Nov 1872
Race: White
Roll: 1984101

What do you think his wife's name is? Leonarda? Leonelda?

Thanks for responding!

I do not know anything about Leonelda. I believe there was some personal conflict between her and my grandfather when she married my great-grandfather. In 1920 United States Census, she is listed living with my great-grandfather, Carlo. Also in the 1920 United States Census is my grandfather who was living in the same city, doing the same work as his father, but living as a "boarder" in a different home.

What has been passed down to me from my grandfather is that Leonelda had other children. After my great-grandfather died she went back to Italy. That is all I know.

On the 1910 census it states that Carlo's (Charles') wife's name is "Eliza." Is this a common name? When I go to LDS files I don't find "Eliza" but I find many other names. Any ideas as if Eliza is a common Northern Italian name?

So her name was more than likely Elisa and not Eliza. I guess my grandfather pronounced it like Elesha (long e sound in the middle).

Great link. Thanks!

On the Oleggio microfilm, there are a lot of films there... which ones do you think would be the most informational? (I'm assuming that dates listed is $5.75)

Hi There,

Since Carlo was born about 1872 (per you), then you can order this film for Births for the town of Oleggio. Nati means Birth.

Nati 1866-1874 - FHL INTL Film [ 1804579 Item 2 ]

Also, make sure you order the film for Attilio's birth for that should give you some clues on it too.

Make sure when you go to the Family History Center you bring a printed out copy of your film numbers so that you know you are ordering the correct one. Also, on the film order slip make sure you put "Item 2" on it this way you will definitely get that Item on the film.

You pay the $5.75 when you order the film. It usually takes 3-4 weeks for film to come in. You will either get a phone call from the FHC or a post card stating your film is in. The film has to be viewed at the center.

I hope this helps
