(S)Paccasassi

Post by James Graham »

I have been searching for records for my GGF, surname Paccasassi.
There are not many. Even today the name does not have a lot of hits on websites such as
http://www.gens.info.
I just found a record for what I believe is my GGF's brother. We have known him as Vincenzo Paccasassi, but this record shows him as Spaccasassi.
Same father and mother as my GGF.

Spaccasassi is a lot more common in todays records.

Are they two different names, variation, transcription error or one split from the other? And where should I start the search for Pasquale and Modesta Micozzi, their parents?

And this is the record for my GGF

I would say that Spaccasassi is the original surname, originating from the job of one of the ancestors. Spacacsassi means Stone-Breaker.
Paccasassi may be an error.
In any case here https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:2 ... cc=1947829 you can find the Allegati folder in Corropoli, where Vincenzo's marriage took place, which includes bothe spuses' birth record.
