Luigi Grilli & Giovanna/Giovannina Egizi of Capestrano
Luigi Grilli & Giovanna/Giovannina Egizi of Capestrano
I've been helping someone trace her Italian ancestry and have been able to trace her grandmother's ancestry using Familysearch and the Antenati sites, but I've been having trouble tracing her grandfather Luigi Grilli.
1906 ship manifest, lines 23 and 24.

Luigi's WWI Draft Card shows birth as 10 Apr 1883

Per the annotation on Giovanna's birth record, she married Luigi Edmondo Grilli in Capestrano on 30 Aug 1905. Images 854 and 855.

Thus far I've been unable to locate their marriage act and Luigi's birth act. I'm going to check again but would appreciate some additional eyes.
Thanks,
Biff

Took a look at the notation and I am reading the same date... 30 August 1905.
In addition, it states that it is record #43 -
Will take a look in the records for the birth and marriage for Luigi Grilli.
EDIT***
The record was #23 not 43!
Here is the marriage in 1905
Luigi was born in Aquila

AND***
Here is Luigi Grilli's birth act in 1883 in L'Aquila [#231]
The marriage notation has the *correct* record number
Luigi's father, Giovanni, was a 27yo clerk at the time of the birth.
Mother was Elodia Perrone, housewife.

Thanks, T.!
I appreciate your help. Through the local library's genealogy section, I've been helping folks from a senior living facility trace their Italian ancestry. It's been an extremely rewarding experience.
I'll take what you've found on Luigi's parents and see if I can go back further.
Un abbraccio,
Biff

Leapin' Lizards, T.!
As the "Old Professor" Casey Stengel said about the Mets, "Simply Amazin'."
I located Elodia's 1929 death act from L'Aquila just before we left for our family Sunday dinner at my daughter's house and was floored when I say you last post. I greatly appreciate your help.
Can you make out Giovanni Francesco's father Luigi Grilli's profession on his birth act?
And the information after Luigi Grilli's name before his age ".....della...."?

Thanks again, T.
I agree it looks like either Caffettiere or Cassattiere but I can't find an adequate translation for an occupation for either. I think I'll post the record in the translation section later to see if any anyone else can help.
Best,
Biff

Biff
Here's some info I posted on the forum some time ago about the occupation caffettiere. I haven't looked at the record though.
*Caffettiere was a proprietor of a coffee house. He sold coffee within his establishment and might have workers who would deliver coffee to individuals in their apartments, places of businesses, etc. Most of these coffeehouses came into existence by the mid 18th century. Some even had rooms in the back or upstairs where there might be illegal gambling, illicit sex with prostitutes, etc. These establishments might be frequented by members of the various classes, from the lowest workers to the most elite. Even local priests might go there to enjoy the coffee and participate in discussions which took place there. These discussions might involve local neighborhood gossip, as well as politics and other events of the day.

Hi Biff!
While searching for the death act of Giovanni Francesco's father, Luigi Grilli... I came across a death for Giovanni Francesco Grilli's sister Maria Grazia Grilli in March of 1878 in L'Aquila.
Same parents: deceased Luigi [Grilli] and Maria Rita Picchione
She was 17 and unmarried, born in L'Aquila.

Thanks for both of those T.
I've , likewise, been trying to locate Luigi Grilli's death record hoping to move the tree back another generation but haven't had as much time as I'd like to continue searching.
Although I'm retired, I decided to go back to substitute teach this past January. I was getting one or two days a week until a couple of weeks ago when I started getting called almost everyday to sub in either an elementary, middle, or high school. I'm working tomorrow and Friday so I'll continue the Grilli/Egizi search over this long weekend.
Best,
Biff

Re: Luigi Grilli & Giovanna/Giovannina Egizi of Capestrano
Hi Biff
Was trying to narrow down the possible death years for Luigi Grilli, father of Giovanni; and to find out where he resided.
So... with the Luigi being deceased on the death acts of children Maria Grazia (in 1878) and Gaetano (in 1875)... and their births being about 1861 and 1860 respectively, I have been focusing on years 1861 - 1875.
Additionally, I found this birth act for Maria Grazia (sister of Giovanni) which identifies Luigi's residence as L'Aquila.
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0
With this information, I believe the search for Luigi Grilli's death act should be in L'Aquila between 1861 and 1875 (for now).
