Mauri, Pietro (1847 - 1919)

Post by PietroM »

My great-great-grandfather, Pietro Mauri, was born in Como, Italy in 1847 (the year of his birth indicated on his grave stone). The only document I've been able to find so far in Italy, since I don't know the names of his parents or siblings, is a military register, which showed he was part of the Lodi cavalry. I've already requested searches in churches close to his enlistment site. These searches came back negative.

Any ideas on how I can narrow down my search for a birth/baptism record for Pietro? There appear to be dozens if not hundreds of churches in Como.

Thanks,
Glenn

Thanks Adelfio. Pietro left Italy around 1868, married in the US and died in Canada. And since the records for Suello begin in 1866, I'm not sure what type of document they would have.

Thanks Mmogno. I've already checked with this church (founded in the 20th century) and SS Fermo e Rustico, in Cesana Brianza, where older records are held. They found no record.

Another contributor on this site suggested the Archivio Storico Diocesano in Milan, which, from 1779 to 1865, conserved records for Milan and the districts of the Ambrosian Diocese, which include Como/Lecco. I wrote to them just a few days ago and am awaiting a response.
