Parents of Antonino Cerniglia

Post by lcerni »

Hello,

I don't know if anyone can help me. I am researching Anthony M Cerniglia (Antonino Cerniglia). He was born 06 DEC 1875 in Santo Stefano di Camastra, Messina, Sicilia, Italy. I am trying to research his parents. His father was Giuseppe Cerniglia. He was born 29 SEP 1846 in Santo Stefano di Camastra, Messina, Sicilia, Italy. I was wondering when he died. Also, I was wondering when he married Maria Garigliano. That would be Anthony M Cerniglia (Antonino Cerniglia) mother. I know that she was born in 1836. An exact date would be nice but I have not been able to find it. She was born in Cerami, Enna, Sicilia, Italy. I know that she died 13 SEP 1907 in Termini Imerese, Palermo, Sicilia, Italy. I also know that Giuseppe Cerniglia remarried after she died.

I have tried looking at the familysearch.com records for Santo Stefano di Camastra but I must admit I get confused with the images. And I am not sure the information is in them.

Can anyone help me answer the above 3 questions?

Thank you so very much for this information.

I am intrigued that Maria Garigliano was widowed when she married Giuseppe Cerniglia. I don't know if in your research if you came across this. On the Ellis Island manifest for Anthony M Cerniglia (Antonino Cerniglia), under "whether going to join a relative or friend", it states his brother Michele LaGanga. With the help from someone I was able to get Michele LaGanga's obituary. It stated that Anthony Cerniglia was his half brother. I am speculating that they shared the same mom but not father. I don't know if you can verify that. In the obituary it also implies that Anthony Cerniglia had a brother Ferdinand that remained in Italy.

Hi, on the Antonino ship's manifest, he joining to Michele La Ganga Brother in Torrington, Connectictut. Here the family in 1910 census, the bad transcription of surname is no a problem, because I am pretty sure that he is the right Michele La Ganga:

and the 1920 census:

he immigrated between 1900 and 1903, I believe... and it is very probable that he was born around 1870 or before...but no in Cerami, because I searched and no one La Ganga iin a decade... so maybe Maria back in Cerami the first husband died, but the children from first husband was born in another town...
Better to continue the search...
I will let you know if I will find some info...
best regards,

With regards to Michele LaGanga - On a New York Passenger list it states his last residence as Giffoni Valle. I don't know if that information would help.

I have discovered that Michele La Ganga never filed a Declaration of Intention, however, his widow did in 1942. Cesarina LaGanga and Michael LaGanga were married on Sep 8 1901. Michael LaGanga was born on May 8, 1870. They entered the USA at New York on Nov 6 1901 on the SS Perugia. Cesarina LaGanga was born on Aug 15, 1880 in Giffoni Valle Piani, Italy. It doesn't state her maiden name. They had 8 children. They emigrated to the USA from Naples, Italy.

But Michele La Ganga was born in Sicily?
If he was the son of Maria Garigliano, maybe he was born Sicily, seeming logical, Giffoni Valle Piana is a mystery for me.. also if just Cesarina birthplace.... but all is possible, I don't know frankly...
