surname Geneselti

Post by ally »

Hi,

Looking to see if someone can help me out.

I just received my dad's baptism record. On it it lists the names Charles Geneselti and Teresa Genselti as sponsors.

Noner of my family knows anything about these people. The other siblings had my grams sisters/husbands and best friends as their god-parents.

My grandparents lived on Jackson Street Guttenberg, NJ in 1930. Dad was baptized 9/1930, Our Lady Libra. I cannot seem to locate them on any website with this name. I tried soundex, but the names were not even close .\I know Charles could be Carlo, as my g-uncle used this on his census from RI. Where else would one check.

My grandparents names were Pietro (Peter Caterino, San Caterina/Santacaterina) most census reports list him as Caterina/o and wife Rose.

The family lived in secaucus, nj in 1920 and in 1910 my gram/1st spouse lived in North Bergen, NJ.

Is this an Italian name, if so, what region would this be from???

Thanks,

Ally

Ally,
If this is a hand-written name...

How about Generelle (or try soundex with a 'r')
In 1930 there is a Charles & Tessie living in North Bergen

Another possibility is a name change in US, but used original name on
certificate?

Another thought:
Have you tried using Steve Morse's Ellis Island site? May give you a few variations to look at and an idea of some area's they could be from in Italy. (use sounds like many or soundex)

Here are some variations using 'generelli'

Hope this helps!

Yes this was handwritten in.

It could be North Bergen, as in 1910 my grandmother and 1st husband lived on Monroe Street, NB.

Didn't try other site for name variations. Just picked my brain and used soundex.

Will look at that one for north bergen.

thanks! :D

FYI - Guttenburg is a small town right next to North Bergen, NJ. It's in the same neighborhood in Bergen County.

Thanks, I grew up on 70th street, until 1971. Then we moved to North Bergen. Lived there until 90's. Yes - Guttenberg is 3 blocks long. Been back there a few times. My old house burned down. As did my fathers house he was born in on Jackson Street.

Lots of happening things going on there. Eyeryone knows everyone!!!

Thanks for your input.
