Calatafimi - Partial Guide to Volume Structures

Post by sacesta »

As I've been researching my ancestors I've been building a guide to the structure of the LDS microfilms.

The attached Word document will be useful to those of you researching ancestors in Calatafimi. This is not a complete guide, but a work in progress. There are guides here for both the Chiesa San Silvestro Papa and for the Chiesa San Giuliano Martire.

This guide won't help you translate Latin, but it will definitely help you navigate your way around the volumes of records.

The leftmost column lists the Item#, the record type, and the range of years covered by each item.

The 2nd column lists the volume numbers.

The 3rd column lists the range of years covered by each volume (still a work in progress).

The 4th column lists the beginning page number for the index of each volume. This is the page of the digital scan, not the original handwritten page referred to in the index. Keep in mind that in some cases the indices are located at the end of the records they catalog. In this case, you must remember to work backwards from the subject index.

The 5th column lists nuances for each volume. For example, I've noted when volumes include duplicate pages, and when the indices occur at the end of the volumes or when no index exists.

I have no idea how many of you are researching ancestors in Calatafimi, but for those who are I think you will find these guides helpful. They've enabled me to swiftly and easily locate long-lost ancestors.

Cin cin,

Steve

The attached document is a revised version of the previous attachments. This one is re-arranged by record type rather than parish. Many new volumes have been added, some minor errors have been corrected, and the document has been cleaned up of redundant information.

If you find any errors, please let me know and I will make corrections.

The document is in Word format and is now 12 pages long.

Hey Steve,

I see it's been a few years since you posted but you're doing some good work here. I've spent a decent amount of time transcribing the marriage indices in Calatafimi. I've transcribed over 14,000 marriages in the indices and almost 8,000 actual records, including date and parents names. I have made it searchable and, other than a glitch with the site duplicating the database, should be of great help to anyone searching in Calatafimi. Especially since I have found marriages that were not written in the index but are in the volume. I am working on linking to the actual familysearch images, but that is a future enhancement. You can search here: https://www.guidagenealogy.com/calatafi ... ch-records
