Searching for Italian father born in Boston Mass.

Post by amosnugget »

I am an adoptee who found my birth mother but as it is she died when I was one.
Her name was Dottye. She had met my birth father in Las Vegas, he was a Keno Writer at that time, Sept 1971.
All I know is that he was Italian, divorced, born in Boston Mass and born around 1942.
At the time that my mother knew him he was about 190 lbs and stood 6'2"
Catholic with dark hair, brown eyes, and olive skin.
I am the product of Dottye having an affair. Her widow has passed as well so really there is not anyone who knows who my birth father was.
Please, maybe some one here knows, is my sibling or has ideas?
Thanks so much.

Wendy, sorry.. I don't understand very well, better a resume:

-Dottye know a Keno Writer in 1971 las Vegas
-after this meeting you are born...
-Dottye in 1972/3 died
-you adoptee
-you, when adult, know who was your birth mother
-you also know that Keno Writer is your birth father and that was of italian origin, born in Boston Mass. in 1942 or + or - so, divorced etc...
-you wish to find Keno

well until here it is right or no i don't understand about Her widow has passed as well .. however you can say us what your search is, and where you searched?

regards, suanj

suanj & wendy

I believe Wendy is trying to find the name of her biiological father with the limited information that she has.

If they exist, can she do that by checking employment records in Las Vegas? Major undertaking. She would need massive cooperation from the different establishments that employed a Keno writer.

Good luck, Wendy!

Any other suggestions??????????????

Do you have a name, first or last to go on? Not to sound harsh, but if this was an affair, does he even know you existed? What of the agency who handled the odoption? What about the birth mothers family, did she have siblings whom she might have talked to, or even her close friends??
Difficult to say the least..........another member here, Trish, who goes by the screenname of Brujaojos would have more insight to the odoption process, I would pm her.

Thank you all.
I am the product of an affair that my mother had. The only other person who knew who the father was has died, he was Dottye's husband.
There is no one else who knows and she would would have been required by law to tell him about her pregnancy and I do believe she did. After all she knew about him (he was divorced, he was Italian....) I do believe it was more then a one night stand.
I was a private adoption. That means my records are all kept by the city and I can have no access to any of them. It took me 14 years of active searching to find my deceased mother..................
Needless to say I am very tired and would like to find my birth father. I would love to see one photo of him, to know his name would be wonderful.
Thanks,
Wendy

PS. I forgot to say that I do have a list of the existing casinos from back then but none of them have the employee records past 20 years, so I am 14 years too late but great idea!

I understand you can request access to newer census records for different reasons. Maybe, father living in La Vagas and working at same job in 1970 and or 1980. Would mean going page by page and looking for keno writer with the right age born in MA. Long shot, but they do "pay" off sometimes!

The only other suggestion I can think of, and it would be a longshot......is to run a personal ad in the area of interest, keeping the details brief enough as to not attract unwanted attention. Maybe you could get a lead on this man in this way, or someone who knew of he and Dottye's relationship......maybe he himself would see this ad......again, a real longshot........

Hi Wendy,

I'm Trish (brujaojos) that wldspirit mentioned in her post. I to am an adoptee. I also found my birth family.

Was there an agency involved with the adoption? Depending on the agency, you might find out more information on the birth parents. If it was Catholic Social Service, they will only give you "non-identifying" information whereas other agencies will even try to locate the birth parents for you. And please note, this is all for a fee.

Also, do you have a copy of your "original" birth certificate and not the amended certificate?

Do you have any clues as to who your birth father could be such as a name, etc? Any clue might help. A good example is my name is Patricia and my birth mothe'rs name was Patricia.

Also, are you Catholic? If you are Catholic, there is a chance that you have two different Baptismal Certificates.

What State were you placed for Adoption? Check their information in regards to being adopted. Some States have open records, whereas here in Pennsylvania, the adoption records are sealed. Only a justifiable cause and a court hearing could get them unsealed.

If you need to talk or what some more clues to try, you can email me personally at brujaojos@yahoo.com.

I hope some of this helps
Trish

OK wow you guys are great!

How or where do I get those census records?? I'd be more then happy to go through them all!

Ok. My adoption was "private" there was no agency involved. Just the state and attorneys. And the attorneys are long gone. I do have my non id (not free in Ohio) and that is where I got some of the birth father info.
I have my amended BC as well as a non certified and incomplete OBC. So it is pretty much a copy of what they would let me know once I poved to them that my Bmom was deceased. No info at all on Bdad there.
While my birht father was catholic my bmom was methodist so as far as I know I was not baptized, and I was not raised catholic...............
I was adopted in Ohio. A closed records state after Jan. 1964, I was born June 1972. They will not open my records. Bummer!!
I'll find him somehow. I hope to still be able to find help here as I already have, never knew to look in census records..............
Hugs

If I remember correctly, I think you can write the National Archives and recquest permission to search the newer censuses. Maybe someone else on the forum has done this already and advice you better. If not, just try it!And I hope they grant you the request. Best of luck in your research.

I also think that you should try widspirit's suggestion. It's a good one.

Yes I agree with that as well. Maybe I should put a small ad in a Las Vagas AND Boston paper just to see. And I can open an email account seperate from my regular one.
Lots of good ideas.
And someone also sent me a maybe on a man but I think it is not him but wow that someone tried to be so helpful.
Very very cool.

Wendy,

I wish you luck with your seach for your birth father. I don't think census records are going to be a viable search avenue. Each census is "locked" as far as personal, identifying information for a period of 72 years. Only statistical data is released.

I did read once (looked but can't find where) that there was a procedure where you could obtain your own census information from a census that has not been released. But beside the $$ fee, you had to provide your name, name of individuals in the family, state, county and exact address. Basically, you had to give the government all the information that would be on the census.

I don't think there is any way you will have access to search for an Italian male, age unknown, name unknown, who lived in Las Vegas and was a keno writer. That would violate to many others privacy concerns.

Hi Debbie you right! I wish to ask to Wendy if the infos about the bfather was on some document or only by person's memory....
because as you say dear Debbie, when the name, the right age, the birthplace ... all data supposed ............ .ehhehe  .....................................it is a problem to find the right person.. really it is a problem as I already say to Wendy about a italian in Las Vegas born in Boston, but just for a suggestion, and for Wendy no very good idea, because the size no right.. so I ask: the size.. as you Wendy can know with certainty?

More, my advice: to ask in italian gaming community in Las Vegas... the italian community can help you... about a keno writer from Boston in 1971... born abt 1942.. I think no many persons... however in the life, always someone know something... regards, suanj

Oh yes all of the information that I have is in documents. Some of it is from the court,my non identifying information. And the other was from my adoption file , my placement records. That was the only paperwork they would give me from my file. I think they forgot to black out the information on him which was lucky for me!! How owuld I find the Italian gaming comunity??
Oh and I odo wish that the person you had sent me would have been him!! That was so kind of you to look.
