Furlani & Bianchi families

Post by easouza »

I am researching the Furlani surname from Vigolo Vattaro in Trentino province. My grandfather, Candido Furlani, came to the US in 1907. He married Anna Bianchi in 1911. Her father, Bonaventuro Bianchi married Marie Bunt and came to the US in 1888. He was from Italy but I don't know where. That is one of the things I am trying to discover. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you provide birth dates or approx birth year and also where in US they settled? Do you have them on census records? What documentation do you have?

Bonaventuro Bianchi's death certificate may provide his town in Italy. Also, birth certificates for children born here may provude this information.

I have all the US Census records for everyone. Both the Bianchis and Furlani settled in Mt Carmel, Norhtumberland County, PA. The Bianchis are my sticking point. I have death certificates and passinger list but none have birthplace for B. Bianchi or his wife and 4 oldest children. Here is what I have:
B. Bianchi
Born: 12 Jun 1855 in: Austria
Married: Bet. 1880 - 1882 in: Austria
Died: 25 Dec 1906 in: Mount Carmel, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania
Burial: 29 Dec 1906 in: Saint Peter's Cemetary (aka Merriam Hill Cemetery)
Maria Bunt
Born: 08 Dec 1865 in: Bohemia, Austria
Died: 01 Apr 1944 in: Mount Carmel, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania
Burial: 05 Apr 1944 in: Saint Peter's Cemetary (aka Merriam Hill Cemetary)
Father: Lawrence BUNT
Children
Name: Peter Paul Bianchi
Born 1: 21 Jun 1882 in: Austria - Italy
Born 2: 1883 in: Austria
Died 1: Bef. 1930 in: Mount Carmel, Northumberland, Pennsylvania
Died 2: Jan 1954 in:
Burial:
Married: Bet. 1900 - 1909 in: Mt Carmel, Northumberland County, PA
Spouse: Catherine UNKNOWN
M
2 Name: Christine Theresa BIANCHI
Born: Nov 1884 in: Prussia
Died: 1940 in: Mt. Carmel, PA (Northumberland County)
Burial:
Married: 17 Nov 1905 in: Mt. Carmel, PA (Northumberland County)
Spouse: Dominick J. CONCINI
F
3 Name: Henry BIANCHI
Born: Mar 1886 in: Bohemia, Austria
Died: 1955 in: Mount Carmel, Northumberland County, PA
Burial: 1955 in: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery
Married: in:
Spouse: Elsie UNKNOWN
M
4 Name: T BIANCHI
Born: 1888 in: Prussia
Married: in:
Died: Bef. 1900 in:

Passinger list
Name: B Bianchi
Arrival Date: 1 Dec 1888
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1856
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Antwerp, Belgium
Destination: New York
Ship Name: Noordland
Port of Arrival: New York
Nativity: Belgium
Line: 47
Microfilm Serial: M237
Microfilm Roll: 528
List Number: 1607
Port Arrival State: New York
Port Arrival Country: United States
He was traveling with a N. Pound (M. Bunt), and a P., Ch., H., and T. Bianchi who match the names of the oldest children.
He only appears in the 1900 Census which lists him as naturalized but gives no year so all I know is that it was probably between 1893 and 1900.

I find it difficult to travel so I do most of my research via the Internet. If I can find the town or village he came from I can get the church records on microfilm from my local Family History Center.

Hi for Bonaventura BIANCHI, just a my suggestion, I think that you can ask ESITO DI LEVA ( militar service) in Udine's Archive.. if they find it, you can know the birthplace and after also the marriage.. because I think that Bonaventura could be born in Udine province..
this is the address:

Archivio di Stato di Udine
via F. Urbanis, 1
33100 UDINE (UD)
Italy

asud @ archivi.beniculturali.it ( no spaces)

Eileen,

While waiting for response from the above, suggest getting death certificates if you do not have. One of them may provide birthplace (Town) information.

As well as death certificates, which may or may not list place of birth....I have some that do and some that don't... :?
search the local newspaper of the area, many times these are on microfilm, and look for obituaries, should be relatively easy with the death dates known. Usually appear in print within 1 to 5 days from date of death.

I have the deathcertificate and it just lists Austria. I have the obituary from the local newpaper and it just says Austria. None of the documents I have been able to get in the US list any town or village for his birthplace.

Then you have to obtain naturalization records, your only other hope would be church records.

I finally received the naturalization papers and, you guessed it, he lists himself as being born in Italy (no town). The only thing I get from this is that he came from parts of Italy that in 1855 were under Austrian rule, but in 1891 were now under Italian rule.

Thanks for all your advice.

My name is Bruce Wanzie. I just came upon this on the net. My grandmother's maiden name before Wanzie was Socoloski. Her mother's name was Margaret Bianchi, who was born in 1903. Margaret Bianchi's parents were Bonaventuro and Mary Bianchi. Therefore, Bonaventuro was my great, great grandfather. My grandmother Jackie always told me that Bonaventuro was born in Italy, but settled in Tirol, Austria. His wife Mary Bunt was Tirolian, which is clear from her almost German last name. This may help settle the whole Italy/Austria mystery regarding Bonaventuro Bianchi.
