Hello,
I stumbled upon this fourm while trying to locate some information on a WWI solider who became a US citizen during the war. The gentelman had come from Sicily and if lived past the early 40's would have been my spouses grandfather.
The surnames that I have discovered or rather had fall into my lap from Italy/ Sicily are:
Russo, Anzalone, Puntar (or N)a, Anza, Pilato.
As I have hit all sorts of brickwalls on this side of the family this looks like a good place to look about a bit and when I know how the flow of this board goes I'll post.
Oh yeah one thing my fingers are horrid spellers...they just do not grasp the concept of typing as well as the rest of my body does...

Keep in mind the more info we have the better, such as first and last names, spouse and known children, state/location of where they lived.....even a rough guess on dates will help. Great teamwork here!!!

Well some of hte names are as follows.
Cataldo Russo ( fil's father) From his Italian ID card. DOB looks like Dec. 14 1891 Looks like his fathers name was Rasario Mother Maiden Name Anzalone possibly Chasaria( the writing is faded) He was born in S.Cataldo.
came to the US abt 1910 we think we may have found a notation on hte Ellis Island web site. though we can not be sure. He was granted US citizenship June 22, 1918. I do have his certificate #.
Spouse to Cataldo: From Passport:

Grazia Anzalone DOB May 21 1905 in Italy San Cataldo Parents: Salvatore and Rosaria Gehitto
Children:
Rosaria ( sarah) Mar. 25, 1922 San Cataldo
Rosaio DOB:April 27, 1925 San Cataldo
the family came to the Us to stay in 1927 can not locate anything on Ellis Island pertaining to them.

From the ship ticket I have
Ships name : Dante Alighieri
Date of departure from Palermo to NY 6/26/1926
Cabin 11a B
2nd class ticket

From the papers of my FIL where he had to put down other living relitives ( 1950's) he put
Nunzio Puntan(or R)a who at the time lived in Naples Italy (Aunt)
Caltaldo Anza who also lived in Naples (Uncle)
Caltaldo Pilato again Naples (uncle)

On the 1930 Census I have the family in Rochester NY living at 91 Central Park with cataldo comming to the US in 1911 (which is a discrempancy to the Ellis Island records). Cataldo was a WWI vet. with no occupation ( he is known to have had TB and later it is believed he died in a Tb facility ran by the VA).
His son Rosario graduated from East High in 42

After Cataldo's death the rest of the family moved to Calif where Grazia remarried.

That is all I have .

As for Ellis Island...I think the ship manifests only go up to 1924 so this may be the reason why you can't find them.

Grace Russo is my grandmother. Her husband is Cataldo Russo, born in San Cataldo Sicily. My mother is Rosaria Russo, changed to Sarah Russo, brother changed from Rosario to Russell Russo. Graces’ father is Salvatore Russo. Mother last Anzelone
