Vito Mattia/Modesta Piancentini (Valmontone)
I am trying to follow ancestry on my maternal side. I'm looking for any information on my mother's grandparents (my great grandparents) named Vito Mattia and Modesta Piancentini (they would likely have been born between 1860 & 1870) from the city of Valmontone, P. Roma, Lazio. This is the only information I have other than Vito at the time of my grandfather's (Agostino Mattia) immigration and passport docs which show Vito living on Via San Francesco in Valmontone. My mother (Modesta Mattia) was named for her grandmother. Any information or enlightenment would be humbly appreciated as I'm currently at a dead end on that line. Thank you.

Re: Vito Mattia/Modesta Piancentini (Valmontone)
Thank you, Pippo M. I will follow up on these leads...
Yes, Maria Attiani was my Grandmother (Nona).
The information appears dead-on accurate. hopefully more can be unearthed. I was hoping all was not lost in the WWII bombing of Valmontone. the address of my Grandfather's (Nono's) birth (18 Corso Garibaldi) is about a block from Via San Francesco, so he must have moved in the interim (pre-bombing).
And yes, my GGM Modesta (Piancentini) died young.

Unfortunately, the only "Falera" surname I can find is out of San Ambrogio in Frosinone, near the border of Campania...

Re: Vito Mattia/Modesta Piancentini (Valmontone)
Molto Grazie..! This is FAR more than I have been able to find to date..! Seems they were all peasants on that side of the family -- My GM Maria (Attiani) Mattia lived a peasant life (even here in the US) until her death at a ripe 94 years old... Once again, much appreciation, Pippo.
PS -- My mother (Modesta Mattia) also passed at age 69...

Re: Vito Mattia/Modesta Piancentini (Valmontone)
I have received a bit more information to various surnames within the family. Seems the same surnames keep showing up (most likely various families had "arrangements" in Valmontone I'm guessing). These names show up multiple times along different lines & generations:
Mattia -- Piacentini -- Pontecorvo -- Attiani
And these only once (so far):
Falera -- Costantini -- Marsili (sp?) -- Mezzo (could be Mezzi)
I have a long road ahead...

As you can see here:
https://www.codiceinverso.it/directory- ... ntone.html
Piacentini, Mattia and Pontecorvo are among the most common surnames in town (today)
whereas Falera, Costantini, Marsili, Mezzo, are not in the list
If the list appears to be just 10 surnames long, click "Carica" to see more.

Re: Vito Mattia/Modesta Piancentini (Valmontone)
I have scoured the books between 1871 & 1946 and have gotten to my 3GG (and filled in everyone) on both my Nono & Nona's sides.
These are the surnames of everyone found (in alphabetical order):
Attiani (different lines, both families)
Belli
Costantini
Del Brusco
Falera
Marsili
Mattia
Mezzo
Michele
Piacentini (different lines, same familiy)
Pizzuti
Pontecorvo
Topani
Ziantona
Anybody researching ancestors from Valmontone most likely has one or more of these surnames in their tree, too, I'm sure...

Re: Vito Mattia/Modesta Piancentini (Valmontone)
PippoM, I did find Costantini on the list, as well as most of the others. I entered all the surnames in another site & all came up as popular in Lazio as of the current day. There were also several surnames I recognized as friends of my grandparents who had also emigrated to the US, as well as married names of a few later relatives who stayed in the area...
