Surname
Hello, My last name is Fiorvante and I’m wondering what this translates to and where it comes from. Specifically, how far back it dates.

Re: Surname
Here's a variant. You might have already seen this with a google search. I'm not sure if the "House of Names" is accurate. Just thought I'd post it in case.

Re: Surname
"Fior(a)vante" derives from the transformation of a personal first name into a surname.
It is still used as a first name, often shortened in "Fiore".
According to what I've found in Internet, it derives from the French name "Floorvent".

Re: Surname
It has also been used as a 'foundling' surname.

"The surname Fioravanti was first found in Pistoia, when a Fioravante was a member of the government council in the city."
According to this, it's from Tuscany.
As for when it dates back to, House of Names says the "Middle Ages".
I think Italy started using surnames in the 15th Century, so it was probably from around that time.

Re: Surname
And, like I said before, I'm not sure if the House of Names is accurate for all names. But it has been accurate with the Irish and English surnames from my paternal line.
