Looking for Grandfather's Naturalization Record
Looking for Grandfather's Naturalization Record
Evangelista "Angelo" Lorusso was born September 18, 1900 in Altamura, Bari, Italy and died August 3, 1986 in New Milford, N.J.. He arrived at Ellis Island on April 15, 1921. He was married in the US to Mariantonia Fariello on February 3, 1924. I found her Naturalization papers at age 59 (would have been 1962), but not his. He worked as a barber; she was a stay at home wife. I have to believe that he got his Naturalization papers way before she did, but I cannot find them.

In the 1940 census, Evangelista Lorusso (barber) age 40, is listed as living in the Bronx and as naturalized. His wife, Maria, is still listed as “alien.” I’m guessing this is your guy.
You may want to ask NARA to do a records search for you covering the period between his arrival and 1940.

Yes, they would have been on Lines 25 and 26 with their 4 daughters on lines 27-30. What is NARA?
Re: Looking for Grandfather's Naturalization Record
National Archives and Records Administration. They have the federal records of Declarations and Petitions (including Oath). However, I believe I found him as having naturalized in the County of the Bronx in 1930. Record Number 83208.
I’m not sure this transmits well, but this is where I found him.
Go to the top of the page and click “Search Naturalizations Database” His name will come up. You can order copies of the record here as well, and they will certify them for a fee.

Re: Looking for Grandfather's Naturalization Record
Hi Ron,
You've probably already found that an Evangelista Lorusso was an outbound passenger on the steamship Queen Frederica, headed from New York to Naples on July 14, 1955. His passport number was 41530. The same man (with the same passport number) returned to New York aboard the SS Independence on October 3, 1955.
The Queen Frederica manifest indicated Evangelista's naturalization took place in New York on June 6, 1930. The year agrees with the date mler found.
Good luck with your search...

What website gives departure information? Please send a copy of the manifest with his naturalization record.

Was Evangelista's father a naturalized U.S. citizen?
Re: Looking for Grandfather's Naturalization Record
Evangelista's father died in Italy when he was a child. I have those manifests. What I don't have is the manifest of him leaving for Italy in 1955. I've been told that his naturalization date is on it.

Hi Ron - Here's the page of the outbound manifest for the Queen Frederica with Evangelista's name on it - his name is the 3rd from the bottom. The 4th column says he naturalized on June 6, 1930.
