Reda

Post by jreda9 »

Hello! i'm looking for information about/connection to my grandfather, Francesco Reda, born 1878 in Mendicino. Parents were Costello and Carolina. Frank had been married in italy, wife died, daughter, Carolina, was sent to a convent in Cosenza. Carolina died in 1920. Frank had a sister, Theresa, who remined in Italy. He lived in Clarksburg WV, married Elizabeth Gemma. We think tho - actually pretty darned sure - he had another family on the other side of town.
If you can help - thanks!

Yes! Armondo Antonio Reda is my dad. Frank Jr. my uncle. Francisco John? - no idea! but mother and father are my grands! hmmmm? my dad had a sister, Carolyn. my father said very little about his parents & knew next to nothing. all we can glean is that the situation was not good for him.
i'd like to find the 'other family' and/or someone who knew my GF. He was close to Howard Gore (of the Al Gore family). no other connections are known.
thanks!

Carolina Reda

Have you seen this manifest... thought it was interesting...

First Name: Carolina (born 1894)
Last Name: Reda
Ethnicity: Italy South
Last Place of Residence: Mendicino, Cotensa
Date of Arrival: Jan 31, 1910
Age at Arrival: 16y Gender: F Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Duca di Genova
Port of Departure: Napoli
Manifest Line Number: 0025

It looks like they never sailed... or maybe detained not sure... but if they were detained... there would have been a notation on the left side of the manifest....

Maria Reda (widow?) travels with Carolina (16) and Fortunato... (12) to Wisc?? Need another opinion...

There is an age difference between Francesco and Carolina... so I don't think they are siblings...

well, this wouldn't be my francesco's carolina's as his wife died and daughter was put in a convent when he left italy. she died in 1920 & is interened in a glass coffin in cosenza somewhere. talk is that there are steps being taken to beatify (sp?) her.

There are currently 82 ship records using exact fields - Reda and town name Mendicino...

Who knows how many more are on the Ellis database with incorrect names...

You actually have documents that show that Francesco had another family across town?? :?

But... wait... the manifest I posted shows him as a single 21 year old...

Do you think he went back to Italy and married there?? If so, there could be another manifest to look for?

Maria :?

P.S. Is Durbin "across" town?

82 huh? that is a lotta redas! makes me wonder how mandy branches are on that reda tree in mendicino. certainly many of them would have been related, no?

i don't have documentation, but my dad found them when his mom died. he destroyed them. i have a phone number to someone who may be from that 'side' of the family
