Do you know the surname of Pietro Testa's mother?

Hi there mmogno.
Re my grandmothers maiden name, I don’t know it unfortunately. The only possible clue I have to her is her first name might be Pierina because that is my mums first name. I just can’t seem to pinpoint anymore than I have on the Italian side of my family. So frustrating but so fascinating too.

I left a thank you for your other reply to me but it is still with the moderator so many thanks for helping me.

Hi there,
A promising little update in my search.
The priest I wrote to in Sant’Antonino replied to my letter and knows a few families with the name Testa in nearby Sant’Ambrogio. He basically said that when I go over in March next year to visit him and say hello and he will give me more information. I’m very excited to be going and just being in the place of my Italian heritage.

I did not see evidence of anyone with the surname Testa in the birth records for Sant'Antonino, Sant'Ambrogio, Rivoli, or Avigliana. As for the earlier suggestion of Bairo/Torre Bairo in this thread that came from the ship manifest for a Pietro Testa going to America; I found this birth record in Torre Canavese but there is an annotation of this individual's death in America so it is not yours.

There are others with this name from the same place but without a more accurate birthdate it is hard to draw any conclusions. If we trust the father's name of Luigi then we can rule these out.

Many thanks for your research, it is much appreciated.
I am confident my great grandfather is named Luigi as it is on my grandfathers marriage certificate from 1913 and his occupation was stated as farmer.
I know my grandfather Pietro Testa was born in 1882 and died June 1935.
Many thanks again for your kind input.

JimmySeaside wrote: 12 Jul 2022, 21:05 Hi there.
I have just recently joined the site and am finding it fascinating.
I hope this post is on the right thread so apologies if I have got it wrong. I am looking for help to trace my Italian grandfather and my Italian family.

I have been researching my family tree for a couple of years now and although my fathers English side has been relatively straightforward my mums Italian side has been particularly difficult.

My grandfather, Pietro Testa, was born in Italy in 1882 and died in Henley on Thames in 1935. He came to England in the early 1900’s and was running a pub called the Queens Head when he died. He married my grandmother in 1913 and on the marriage certificate his fathers name was Luigi Testa and he was a farmer.

A couple of weeks ago I found out he was from the area of Sant’Antonino Di Susa in the Piedmont region of Italy. This is really exciting for me and I have already booked a weeks holiday there in March next year to do more research and just be where he came from.

I would be so grateful if anyone could help me further my research and just help in any way possible.

Many thanks and kind regards
Jimmy
Hi Jimmy, just my two cents!
Your Pietro married in Lambeth on 1913, and, if I am no wrong on 1912 a daughter, Pierina, was born also here. Well on 1911 census two Testa, father Michele Testa and son Simone Testa residing in Lambeth https://i.postimg.cc/P5yNpPrB/rg14-01950-0069-03.jpg

so seeming me a strange coincidence, and I believe that they were related in some way.
On 1901 census appear just Michele born on 1859 in Buronzo, Vercelli, Italy.
Maybe helpful, best regards,
suanj

I found also in Novara military draft card a TESTA Pietro man born on 1882 in Novara province pag 30 https://www.archiviodistatonovara.benic ... 82_1_2.pdf
Truly, I am positive that he was born in piedmont, but very probably that he was born in some commune in the provinces of Vercelli and Novara.. Buronzo is far just 35 minutes by car from Novara --

Hi suanj,
So very sorry I haven’t replied sooner to your wonderful research which I am very grateful for.
You are right about the marriage of my grandfather Pietro Testa in 1913 to my grandmother Louisa Hartshorne and the birth of my beautiful mum Pierina in 1912. On the marriage certificate is the name of my great grandfather Luigi Testa - farmer.

It is possible the two men named Testa in the census are related somehow and I will certainly research that. The other link you gave me I will also research.

My heart is still drawing me to the area in the Susa valley and I am travelling with great excitement there in March next year and staying in Caprie.

Many, many thanks again for your kind reply and research.
Best regards
Jimmy
