Dimuccio/ Dimucci
Hello all, please help if you can.
My Great Grandfather, Felice Dimuccio (dimucci, demouchio) and his wife Maria arrived in Hull, UK in 1891. They had a son Andrew(Andra) who was either born directly on landing or during passage. They do not figure in the 1891 census but can be found in the 1901 Uk census in York UK. They are then listed under the name Phillips, Felice is 36 and Maria (now listed as Mary) is 29.Andrew is 9 and all are listed qas Italian nationals. Felices occupation is listed as organ grinder (although i believe he only pulled the organ for another man)
Family history says that Felice originated from Milan and had (was travelling with?) a brother who went on to USA (Pittsburgh) perhaps Felice had to cut their journey short due to Maria’s condition and ended up in UK? I have contacted Hull records office but unfortunately no shipping records exist.(Do embarkation records exist in Italy?)
I am very keen to know for certain where Felice and Maria came from and to find out about the Brother who went to USA and any family, if you have any suggestions at all please let me know.
Thanks a lot, Julian "Phillips" (Dimuccio)

Re: Dimuccio/ Dimucci
Hi, in Pittsburgh,PA I found only this records, and the surname could be Di Mucci or Di Muccio, but the transcrition seem mistaken:
- Amrico(Americo) Dinucci Pittsburgh Ward 8, Allegheny, Pennsylvania abt 1895 Italy race
-Joseph (Giuseppe) De Nuccio
[Joseph Denuccio] Pittsburgh Ward 8, Allegheny, Pennsylvania abt 1875 Italy
perhaps someone can look the imm. year...
however I don't believe that your ancestor came from Milan, because your surname is of southern Italy.. regards, suanj

Re: Dimuccio/ Dimucci
Thanks suanj, i thinkyou may be correct about southern Italy, most of the later entries in the ellis island records for dimuccio seem to originate from close to Naples?. Would it be a viable to check logs for ships leaving naples for Hull in 1891? or would this be too big a task(always thinking they might have left from genoa or trieste anyway). i would be gratefull if someone could look at immigration details for me, i can only access very rudimentary info.
Re: Dimuccio/ Dimucci
Di Muccio or Di Mucci ( are similars but however are 2 different surnames) both are of south Italy and some person living currently in the north Italy they are descendants of south italians emigrated in the north Italy... also it is possible that your ancestor came before in USA and after in UK, as many italians that in the first time of arrival they had bad luck in USA, so emigrated in UK... the place it is impossible to say, because are :
-Di Muccio in Campania region and in Basilicata region
-Di Mucci in Molise region
obviously someone of this are also in Apulia etc, but mainly this are the right regions....
organ grinder... with precison what make a organ grinder? what is the right word in italian for this profession? is the "Arrotino"? http://www.ilportaledinapoli.it/immagini/arrotino.jpg
let me know, suanj

Re: Dimuccio/ Dimucci
Hi, Suanj. If it helps Felice was 36 on census in January 1901 so must have been born in 1864?, If this fits with the person you have, i could try to get exact birth date, it may give Marias maiden name on Andrews birth certificate but as they seem to be named Phillips almost immediately(although Andrews death certificate still said Dimuccio , i am told) they might not have been too exact ?.
I would be pleased if you could let me know how likely the match is. Thanks very very much for your help.
