Mayoral Records 1809 in Italy

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

Mayoral Records 1809 in Italy

Post by teresa_t28 »

Hello! Our family recently learned that a potential ancestor was mayor of the village my grandmother and grandfather grew up in. Nicola Durante was mayor of Albi, Catanzaro in 1809. Were mayors elected in that region in 1809? Would portraits or other records be kept?

In such small towns mayors were from prominent families; though, I don't think there might be portraits, but that's possible. As they were from such families, it is likely that you might find notarial records.
