Date of Arrival: Jun 05, 1900
Age at Arrival: 30y Gender: F Marital Status: M

First Name: Carmela
Last Name: Petsteo
Ethnicity: Italian
Last Place of Residence: Villa Mora Del B.
Date of Arrival: Jun 05, 1900
Age at Arrival: 11y Gender: F Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Hesperia
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0014
can you explain why the have all three listed with the last name of Petsteo
when in fact it should have been DiPippo ... it does look like G. Pippo to me... if you look hard enough 8O ... but Battista certainly does have her maiden name on the manifest...

The Ellis Island transcriptions aren't the best.
.. as long as their other American records have DiPippo or Pippo... I wouldn't worry about it...!!

Yes but I still don't understand where the name Petsteo came from. My great grandmother did not have a first husbands. It just confusing. that my grandmother name would not say Santa Pippo or Santa DiPippo. but its says Santa Petsteo and even Battista name says Battista Colantuono Petsteo, I would just like to know who is Petsteo/ An Ideas thanks again DebraRose

I see Pippo... please forget about the Petsteo name...

You can make an annotation... to the Ellis Island people..

This is what I suggest you do... lets use this manifest for an example...

http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipM ... 5180040165

See where it says... "Create an Annotation" click that link...

It should take you to this page here...

http://www.ellisisland.org/search/ca_ed ... 5180040165&

Then fill out...

BUT PLEASE don't go asking them why this name is Petsteo.. just send in the corrections...

They came here as real Pippo... the manifest is correct... the surname is correct...

Please read here.... and let me know what you think of this article...

http://www.ellisislandimmigrants.org/el ... ealogy.htm

also

http://www.comunesofitaly.org/Links/Handwriting.htm

Please bookmark it... because if you are going to research people... you need to understand script at it's worst.
