Hi Everyone,
I am new to this board and also new to genealogy and family research. I am trying to gather documents for jure sanguinis and also for two of my cousins for a family history.
I'm plodding along with info on my maternal side, still need documents from Italy, but I'm really in a jam trying to find info on my Dad's side. My dad's birth certificat lists his father as Dominick Mandico and his mother as Catherine Sattilaro. My grandmothers ship manifest list her name as Sotillaro. I can't find anything on my grandfather. I don't know when he came here, or if he was ever naturalized. He did have a social security card. His name was Dominic Mandico or Mandica in Italy. He was from Calabria. I don't know the town. His first name may have been spelled Domenic.
Can anyone guide me as to what I can do to try and find more information on him.
Also, On my maternal grandfather. His name was giovanni Rocchi in Italy. He came to US on Napoli and arrived in Boston on Sept 2, 1913. He changed his name some time after 1938 to Roccki.
I was able to find quite a bit of info on my maternal grandmother, who came to US via Ellis Island a few years after my grandfather. But relatively little info on either grandfather. Any assistance is greatly appreciate.
I just joined this forum and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

Here is what I have found out in the past few hours online and digging through an old box of papers:
Domenic Mandico or Mandica: born July 20, 1889 somewhere in Italy, I think in Calabria. Married Oct 4, 1915 in Richmond, Staten Island NY to Catherine Mandico, or Katherine Mandico in Perth Amboy New Jersey. He died in Richmond NY on April 4, 1964.
His wife, my paternal grandmother, was naturalized as Catherine Mandico, on March 10, 1944. Her maiden name is spelled several ways:
Catherine Satillaro, Caterina Sottilaro, katherine Sattillaro. Her marriage cert. has her name with Satillaro. I think she came through Ellis Island and that she may be from a town called Cannitello or someting similar to that in Calabria that startes with a C and ends with a -ello.
I can't find any information about how/when my paternal grandfather came to Italy or if he became a US citizen. I'm assuming he did since his wife did. Any suggestions on how I can find more info?
Thanks,
Jan
