Sanceri Family Name

Post by phishfood »

I have a friend who is looking for some help with her roots. She is looking for a Frank Sanceri who was born about 1901. She has heard he is from the Naples region. Can someone give some advice on how she should start to locate him?

Hi Kim,

Do you know when Frank went to the U.S. and where did he settle? Do you know his parents names?

This is what my friend told me:

My friend believes that Mariano Sunseri is her
great-grandfather and believes as well that they did come in through NY. There may be a trail from NY to
Pittsburg, Pennsylvania down to New Orleans, then to
California. My friend has to get a birth record for my grandfather and/or his brother in New Orleans to try to verify the parents' names and attempt
to find a name for the mother.

This is all she knows so far. Thanks for all the help.

Kathy,

My friend is looking for Frank. It is a relative of hers. Her name is Sharri Hanna (married name). It is a grandfather or great-grandfather I think.

Kim - My name is Shari (Sanceri) Hanna; my grandfather's name is Frank Sanceri. He was born in 1900. My father's name is Mariano Sanceri. Could we be related? The village/area our ancestors came from is Trabia, Palermo, Sicily.

The name was probably Sunseri originally. There are many Sunseri families from Trabia. I've been doing a lot of research on that name in the Trabia nascite (birth) & matrimonio records. I can try to look up Frank in the 1900 & 1901 records when I get back to the library, if that would help.
My Sunseri ancestors also settled around Pittsburgh and a few went to New Orleans.

So this is really strange but my grandfathers name is Frank Sanceri, I was named after him by my parents Larry Sanceri and Diane Wright. I was born in Long Beach in July 1978. I found some family members in Arkansas but I know Frank lived in Mira Luma, California. I had a family tree on my computer but lost it. The furtherest I traced back was the early 1700s in Palerimo, Sicily. The original spelling of the name I was told was Sunseri but Frank changed it to Sanceri to satisfy the American spelling. If you have any information Please Please contact me at 512 550 4614 or email me at gigem10@tamu.edu.
