Montagusto, Avellino, Italy

Post by mobilehome »

Looking for the birthplace of my grandfather and family. On his ship manefest it states he was from Montagusto, Avellino, Italy. The family name is Pezzella. His name was Donato Rocco Pezzella and his wifes name was Maria Serullo Pezzella. He originally came to the USA in 1904 but returned and married and then They came to the USA 1921. At the time they came they had two daughters. Can anyone help me.

Thank you for all of your help

Could the town possibly be Montaguto without the "s"?

Using search criteria of only MONT for all of Italy, returns the following:

Region Province City or Town

Basilicata POTENZA BRINDISI DI MONTAGNA
Campania AVELLINO MONTAGUTO
Emilia Romagna MODENA MONTAGNANA
Lombardia SONDRIO MONTAGNA IN VALTELLINA search
Molise CAMPOBASSO MONTAGANO
Sicilia MESSINA MONTAGNAREALE
Toscana AREZZO MONTAGNANO ALBERORO
Toscana FIRENZE MONTAGNANA VAL DI PESA
Toscana PISTOIA MONTAGNANA PISTOIESE
Trentino Alto Adige BOLZANO MONTAGNA * MONTAN
Trentino Alto Adige BOLZANO MONTAN * MONTAGNA
Trentino Alto Adige TRENTO MONTAGNAGA
Trentino Alto Adige TRENTO MONTAGNE
Veneto PADOVA MONTAGNANA
Veneto VERONA SAN ZENO DI MONTAGNA

As you can see, there is only one possibility for Avellino, so the town name is MONTAGUTO without the S.

I want to thank all that have responded. I stand corrected on my spelling and typing. It is in fact Montaguto. As far as Donato Rocco he arrived in Boston 1904 listed Montaguto as last residence, they spelled his last name Pizzella instead of Pezzella on the ship manifest. I hope that will help VJ.

And thank you all for trying to help as well, I truly apprciate it as I have hit the usual brick wall. All of our known relatives are now passed on and I have no one to ask questions about their history or where they came from other than records I can find and what they said prior to them passing on.

Thanks again for all your help

To all of those of you that have helped me with the Pizzella/Pezzella family I thank you and have a question.

I wanted to mention that Rocco had stated that during the first World War he fought with the Italian Army up in the hills against the germans is there any way that I can check to see if this is true? Would there be any records from WWI with lists of soldiers in it that would give me information about him? If so wherea nd how would I go to check that?
