Italians in Glasgow 1890's

Post by Emmy »

Be grateful for any information about Italians coming to Glasgow in the 1890's. My grandfather was an ice-cream vendour/confectioner in Glasgow about that time but that is all the information I was able to find from his death certifcate. Would there be any records kept of 'traders' etc. at that time.

Many Thanks for the link Biff.
I havent seen that one before. Lots to read there.
Listening to part of the interview at the beginning reminded me of what my husband had told me about their family being interned during the war.
Hope you are feeling a bit better.
God Bless

Many thanks for the links daddymuzza that was so kind of you.
I did know about Park circus that was where my cousin did some research but I havent been there (too far for me to travel).
I do have most of the birth & death records and at the moment I'm waiting on some coming from Italy and now that I have that information I really would like to find out more about their life in Glasgow but that's proving to be even more difficult than finding their birth death records etc.

But one good point all these links are super lots of good reading brings back lots of other memories too.

Thanks again

Daddymuzza these links are fantastic and are bringing back memories I'm sure I remember my dad talking about Lawmoor Street I had forgotten that until I saw it come up on that site . My grandfather died at South Wellington Street but that wasnt listed perhaps that area may have been redeveloped.
Many many thanks
