Riccio - Nardi families

Post by criccio »

Hi,
My grandfather Joseph (Giuseppe) Riccio was born in Saracena in 1886, emigrated to U.S. in 1906, and later married Josephine Nardi, and moved to Connecticut.
Although I have birth certificates for Joseph Riccio and his parents. I have been unable to find out anything about the Nardi side. Evidently, her family was opposed to the marriage and cut off all ties with Josephine from that point onward. My father, Vincent Joseph Riccio, was named after Josephine's father, Vincent Nardi. He vaguely recalled having been told that Josephine was born in Italy and came to states as a toddler (possibly incorrect, maybe from Castelgrande). In U.S., Nardis possibly from Bronx? Any ideas how to find out more? (Noone seems to have copy of marriage certificate, nor know where the ceremony was performed).

I also understood from my father that Joseph Riccio had two brothers (or maybe cousins) that emigrated to U.S a few years later than he did, and married two sisters, all from Saracena. Sound familiar to anyone out there?

Thanks in advance for any help.
C. Riccio

Hi and Welcome to the forum :D !
You have some great information to go on.
If this looks like your family in 1930,
perhaps we can find Josephine in 1910
on a census with her family.

Wow. That was fast.
The data you listed for Riccio in census from 1930 is definitely my father's parents and siblings. Census data for earlier years, if available, might show another daughter, Cynthia, who was killed by a car as a young child. Leonard also died in childhood and therefore might not appear in some later listings.

I would have to agree that the Nardi census data in second post not connected.

Thanks for your efforts!

I am amazed at how much you found. Thank you so much. All of the docs that you provided for Joseph ring true, including 1886 birthdate and date of death. I remember the house on Levesque avenue. And my grandfather was an incredible gardner, who had a carpentry workshop in the yard.
The manifest also fits with my info. The WWI draft registration is a bit off, but maybe just inaccurate, blue eyes would be right, same date of birth, diff year? probably same.

Perhaps the census information you provided on Nardis is the right family. If Joseph went to NY to his brother Leonard on 326 East 115th om 1906 and the Nardis were on 233 East 111th in 1910 ... perhaps that is where/how they met.
Any ideas how to find out more about the Nardis?
Thanks again.

Been trying to find more records on that particular Nardi family
without success. Will look again for another census w/o Josephine
to see if we can find a few more clues about this family.

If a confirmed record could be found on this site, it's easy to
write away for the original.

Valarie,
Great finds!! I've been checking also; the Nardi's have proved elusive.
