Thank You for info. !!
I did find the ship manifest. It turns out my grandfather Salvatore Letteri came to Ellis Island on the Giuseppe Verdi on April, 3, 1920 by himself and I also learned he was born in Sulmona, Italy March 16, 1901 and his fathers name was Francesco Letteri.

Hi There,

Wldspirit gave you great help and advice. Follow her advice to write a letter to obatin Salvatore's Birth Act and/or the Marriage Act of Francesco Letteri.

There is microfilm for the town of Sulmona, but its limited (1809-1865), that's why you have to write directly to the town.

Here is the link for the microfilm numbers.

Here is a link to find the nearest Family History Center.

I hope this helps,

Hi I am new. I have been looking around the site. I just followed the above link and entered my surname, Scudieri, in place of Letteri. It gave me a list of 13 people. Am I to understand those are all address, phone numbers of people with my same name currently living in Sulmona, Italy?

I cannot read or speak much Italian, I can make out some words because of taking a few classes and some latin.

I appreciate any help.

Donna,

You can send the same letter to all 13 people. I'd definitely include a copy of a pic or two as well as a simple family tree. I'd also enclose a self-addressed return envelope with each letter.

Since you have a friend whose parents can help translate your letter into Italian, I'd relate the information you know on the Scudieri's. Who emigrated, when they emigrated, spouses, siblings, where they lived, children, grandchildren, how you're related to the first emigree.
