ISO Latteri & Salanitro from SAN FRATELLO, MESSINA, SICI

Post by LinJ47 »

I am looking for any info on the small town of San Fratello, in the Messina Province of Sicily. My ancestors were the Latteri and Salanitro families.

My great grandparents were Eloisa Latteri and Alfio Salanitro. They had 6 children that I know of.
4 of them came to the USA in the early 1900's. They were named:
Benedetta
Theresa
Paulo
Anna (my grandmother)
2 of them stayed behind in Sicily. They were named:
Alfio (died in World War 1)
Maria (died in the Spanish Influenza epidemic)
I think that both Alfio and Maria may have been married and had children.

If anyone knows of these surnames or anything about the town of San Fratello, please contact me!

Thanks so much,
Linda

Thanks for the welcome Biff and for the info. That's a great site on San Fratello. I've visited it before and have it on my toolbar.

I love this Italian genealogy website, I just stumpled on it last night. How long has it been up? I plan to post here a lot more as time goes on.

Ciao for now,
Linda

It's so nice to be able to find others who are researching their Italian roots who want to talk about more than whether it's called SAUCE or GRAVY!!!

Dear Riccardo,

Il dio li benedice! Thank you! Grazie! That is more information than I had ever hoped for! How wonderful! I will certainly write to those offices and people!

Do you think that they will accept my requests in English? I have been studying Italian for a while, ma le mie abilità di lingua italiane non sono ancora così buone!!!

Thank you so much again! This is so wonderful!

Saluti!

hello, i am researching relatives in san fratello. i think that i might be somehow related to the latteri family through my ggrandmother, benedetta regalbuto. she was married to joseph marino. here are some of the names i'm researching: marino, regalbuto, emanuele, cattaliotti (sp?), carroccio, martinez. several of my relatives were in canada, amsterdam, ny, and manhattan. does any of this sound familiar? - laura

Hi Laura,

Nice to hear from you. I don't yet know of any connections to my Latteri's with the Regalbuto's but I am still so very new to this. I do know that my Great+ Maternal Grandmother Eloisa was a Latteri.

Here is a run down of the info I do have:

LATTERI FAMILY OF SAN FRATELLO, SICILY

My maternal great grandmother was:
ELOISA LATTERI -DOB: Oct 28, 1856 - Death: April 9, 1938 in San Fratello, Sicily

Her parents were:

PAOLO LATTERI, Father of San Fratello
MARIA MUSTICA, Mother of San Fratello

ELOISA was married to ALFIO SALANITRO of San Fratello
They had 6 SALANITRO Children, all born in San Fratello:

BENEDETTA DOB-1878?/Died 1953?, NY Married to ANTONIO MOLLICA -
TERESA-DOB-1879?/Died Lodi, NJ 1961? Married to FILADELFIO NUCIFORA
PAOLO-DOB? Married to? Died in NY-When?
ANNA-DOB-April 8, 1889 - Died March 2, 1955, Bronx, NY(my maternal grandmother) Married to GUISEPPE RIZZO
MARIA-DOB 1892-DIED in Sicily around 1917-Spanish Influenza- Not married?
FILADELFIO-1895 (Died in Italy during WW1)-Married?

If anyone has any information on the LATTERI, SALANITRO or MUSTICA families, please do not hesitate to contact me. I have much info to share.

The surnames I am researching are:

D'ANNA, GARBACCIO/GARBY, GERBINO, LATTERI, MAGRI, MUSTICA, RIZZO, SALANITRO

Sincerely,
Linda J. Barnes

Laura, my ancestors were from Acquedolci (I hope this is written correctly). I think San Fratello was not too far away from Acquedolci. My grandmother's father, Giuseppe Salanitro went to Perú. I remember visiting the Salanitro family back in 1988, while my family and I were in Germany. There was uncle Alfio, aunt María Teresa and their family. Uncle Alfio died back in the 90s, though. He served in World War II and was called "El Mariscallo" or something like that. He was a very tall man and had three children and three grandchildren at that time. Uncle Alfio was married to Aunt María Teresa, who was also his niece. There was also another uncle, but I cannot remember the name anymore, maybe it was Bettino or so. My grandmother is still alive and in Perú. She is in her 80s now, though. Her name is María Teresa Salanitro La Torre. Maybe you are related to her too (and to me).
I currently live in Houston, Texas, with my wife and two baby girls.

Regards,

Fernando Bobbio
