Renaldi/Rinaldi/Masturzi

Post by cembn5 »

I'm trying to find information on my great great g'parents that came from Napoli, Italy in 1885/6 via argentina.

Their names are Louisa Renaldi (Masturzi is maiden name) and Antonio Renaldi (also spelled Rinaldi).

I have been told they left Italy for Argentina then to USA.

Can anyone guide me in a direction that would help?
thanks so much!

Can you give any other details - their parents names, childrens names and years of birth, if children were born in Italy Argentina or America. Were any trips made back and forth from america to Italy? Where did they settle in america? etc. The more detail you can give the easier it will be to get you some help.

I will search a bit more tomorrow. Hopefully other members of the forum will jump in to help you.

Elizabeth

I know Antonio was born 7 Jul 1858 in Naples, Italy. Luisa was born 15 Oct 1867. I do not know any of the parents names of them.
children were
Leo Anthony 12/20/1894 born in Connecticut
Henry 4/15/1904 born in Connecticut
Netti born 1898
Peter born 4/10/1907
Mary b 1903
Annie 1882
Charles 1908
Jennie 4/17/1885 - I learned this child was conceived on the ship from Italy to Argentina. I found records that she was born in Italy though.
Ralph b 10/1890 in Connecticut
Louisa b 1910 in Connecticut

I do not know of any trips back and forth to Italy. They settled
in Litchfield County, Connecticut. I show them on the 1910 census in usa. it shows antonio came in 1885 and Luisa in 1886 and that he was naturalized in 1894 but I cannot find any info to validate this information.

Thanks so so much for the help on this!!!

Wow....this is fantastic! Thanks so much for all the information!!! Im curious about the ship's registry from Oct 1886. It shows her as married but uses Masturzi as her last name which is her maiden name. odd. And if she had Jennie in Italy then where is she on the registry???

I have totally been unable to find any naturalization record for Antonio. I even browsed the site by year and couldnt find any record on him. Is there any way to find this information through another source?

The 1900 census shows one child died - mother of 11 but 10 living. How do I find more info on that?

Thank you to everyone for helping. I'm so thankful to have the information!

It looks like Antonio may have traveled back to Italy maybe other times too.... I'm guessing his side of the family must have remained in Italy and he went to visit. Was it because of the address that you could locate that this was the right Antonio...it seems his name was quite popular. Thanks Suanj for your time you've spent on that. I really appreciate it!!!!!

Most Italian women keep their maiden name; however, those married here usually change it.

I read somewhere that there was also something in italian heritage that said the kids were named like the first boy was named after the dad's dad and the second after the mom's dad.....so could that tell me antonio & Louisa's parents names by using that "rule"??

So if the woman used her maiden name then when they got to us was it changed to their married name or did they assume it? because the census has rinaldi as their family name.

Typically the first boy was given his fathers fathers name and first girl was given fathers mothers name. Second son give his mothers fathers name and second girl mothers mothers name.

Italian women kept their own surname as was customary and upon coming to the US followed the US custom of using the husbands name. It was just assumed no official papers had to be filled out to say they were now taking their husbands surname.

For passenger records of immigrants to Argentina, I use this website:
http://213.212.128.168/radici/ie/defaultie_e.htm

And the only Luisa and Antonio Rinaldi I find have an arrival date of 23-09-1907 via ship Ravenna. She was 15 and he was 17 y/o. Not what you're looking for I'm afraid, but the website might help you.
