Searching for Italian Marriage Record

Post by lhillclasses »

Greetings all!

I am searching for my great grandparents marriage information. I know that they were married in Abbruzzi, Spoltore, Italy in 1894. I believe that Enrico and Rosaria would have lived in Pescara, Spoltore, Abrruzzo Italy. I know my great grandfather's name is Enrico Giancaterino and my grandfather believes that his mother's name was Rosaria Tortola or Tortala. However, he is not sure. I have census data that by 1920, Rosaria and Enrico were living in Philadelphia. We have found Enrico's immigration information through Ellis Island (1908) through France. But we cannot find Rosaria or their three children who came from Italy between 1910 and 1911.

My grandpop is 94 and very eager to learn more about his mother and her family. But I am stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

She may very have entered the USA at Philadelphia. Go toPhiladelphia.archives@nara.gov and ask them to search their indexes based upon the full name, port of entry and approximate date of arrival.iladelphia indexes go from 1800 to 1948.

You also may wish to call the Philadelphia office for NARA at 404-736-2851 and ask one of the clerks if he can check it out for you since you meet the criteria for indexe checks. =Peter=

The Philadelphia passenger list are available at Ancestry, indexed thru years 1800 to 1945........

If you are having trouble tracking Rosaria, perhaps you could provide the names of the other three children, along with an approximate birthyear, if known, and a manifest could be located using their names, thus leading to the discovery of Rosaria.

Hi!

want to show you an interesting arrival manifest (not about Rosaria and children) about a group of Enrico's relatives, perhaps it can help you in your family searches:

Philadelphia Passenger Lists, 1800-1945
about Gerenia Giancoteria
Name: Gerenia Giancoteria (Geremia Ciancaterina)
Arrival Date: 22 Mar 1910
Age: 21 Years
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1889
Gender: Male
Ethnic Background: Italian (South) (Italian)
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ship Name: Taormina
Port of Arrival: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Friend's Name: Enrico Giancaternia
Last Residence: Italy
Birthplace: Terone, Italy
Microfilm Roll Number: T840_73

Nothing strange because Geremia declared to go to his uncle Enrico Giancaterina (leaving in Italy his father Guarino - Enrico brother's?) but I looked also to the other two men with him:
line 25: Pasquale Chiavarieri (Chiavarini?) from Spoldore (mispelling of Spoltore?) declared to go to his brother in law Enrico Giancaterina living in Christian street Phila.
line 27 : Panfilo Di Girolamo from Spoldore declared to go to the same brother in law Enrico Giancaterina.....

They all declared as place of birth not Spoltore but another town I can't understand well, can someone help??
It seems Terone but this name doesn't exist.....
Suanj puoi aiutare? Dovrebbero essere le tue zone...

Hi Vj,

can you search in the Microfilm from Family History center if they have those about Pianella ( same Pescara Province), because Rosaria declared as place of birth of their child that town, maybe they were married in Spoltore and after were living in Pianella....
So lhillclasses can order both the microfilm....
Thanks!

Italian tradition says that the marriage should take plce in the village of the bride, so maybe they got married in Pianella.

This is where to find marriage record (you can request copy from real record or abstract/certificate)

Comune
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Piazza Garibaldi, 2
CAP 65019 Pianella (Pescara)
Italy

Comune
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Via G. Di Marzio
CAP 65010 Spoltore (Pescara)
Italy

I hope it helps
bye Riccardo
