Post by coronacrc »

Helloo I am new to this website and was wondering if someone could get me started by helping me out getting some information on my last name Corona...I believe my family is from San Stefano Di Camastra but I went back to visit and could not find any remaining Corona's...My family today is scattered throughout Easton, Pa and Phillipsburg, Nj. Also my grandmothers last name was Frinzi if that will help you at all. Thanks ALOT! I'v been curious about this stuff for so long. thankssss.

Hi, and welcome to the forum,

Do you have the ship's manifests for your family? Can you give us some more info about the names of the people you want to research and approximate dates of arrival? Or are you just looking for Italian records? In either case first names and approximate birth dates would help in the search.

How serious are you about tracing your family back to Italy? If you just want first out of italygeneration genealogy then we can help you here but if your looking to go into any detail then may I suggest you get the book Italian genealoical records by Trafford R. Cole and if you hit a brick wall then get back to us. =Peter=

Don't know if you have this, but here is a copy of your ggrandfather's manifest.

There is information on it that may be useful to you.

There are lots of Frinzis who came from San Stefano, do you have a first name?

Hi Coronacrc,

There are civil records for San Stefano Di Camastra on LDS microfilm. Find a Family History Center (FHC) near your, I'm providing the link......
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

and here are the links for the films. They go until 1865 so you may have to write letters to fill the gap between your great grandparents births and 1865 (if they were born after that date)

1820 through 1865 - birth, death, marriage etc.
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... ato+civile++

1584 through 1811 census information
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... to+Stefano+++

Write down the film numbers you would like to view, go to your FHC and order the films for viewing. The cost is approximately $5.50 USD per film and takes about 4 weeks to arrive.

Looks like you might get some great information going back to the 1500's.....I'm jealous!!!

If you need any help or have questions about the films let us know.

Regards,
Elizabeth

Chris,
It appears you have a good start if this is your
family page on ancestry.com
Do you have your census records yet - they're
a great source of information for location, family
relationships and approx dates.

Also on your ship manifest there may be naturalization
notations for Basilio - those are documents that may be
worthwhile to order.

According to both Basilio’s 1907 manifest & his 1917 WWI Card
he was probably born in San Marco.
(Possibly San Marco D`Alunzio)
Distance from Santo Stefano Di Camastra (Messina, Sicily) to
San Marco D`Alunzio (Messina, Sicily) is abt 40 km
