Sant'Elia records were destroyed during WW2. It is true that the LDS microfilmed records but they are complete only from 1809 to 1865. Records fro 1866 forward were destroyed and only reconstructed records exist. This means that if your ancestor was not in Italy after WW2 you will need to go to the church for information. In Sant'Elia most of the church records did survive.

Not exactly, they are incomplete for the years 1866 to 1899. They have microfilmed whatever records were on file with the State Archives but for these years they were only reconstructed records. This means that the people living in Sant'Elia after WW2 went to the town and re registered themselves with whatever documents they had on hand. They had to sign that the information they were giving was correct. If it had to be verified they would have checked with the church records. People who were dead or who had emigrated did not register themselves for obvious reasons.
In Italy, when you are born you do not receive a copy of the document to use for the future. When you need to prove your birthdate, for school or marriage etc, you go to City Hall and they give you an 'extract' that contains just the information you need. It might not state your parents names for instance or their ages. This extract is valid for 6 months only.

I have been doing research on SantElia Fiumerapido (there are two Sant'Elia's in the Frosinone area) in my research I have come across quite a few DiCicco's
I also have a number of films on extended loan from the LDS If you could give some more information e.g. Christian names and dates etc I may be able to give you some help.

I will contact Emmy to give her names and approximate dates of my family from StElia and hope for similar results.
Brilliant site.......congrats to organisers.
I will do whatever I can to to help you in your research
I'll check the records I have here at home and when I get back to the FHC I'll check the films I have there too.

The name Italia, probably a Graecized form of Italic Vitelia (='calf land'), was originally restricted to the southern half of the 'toe' but was gradually extended. By 450 B.C. It meant the region subsequently inhabited by the Bruttii; by 400 it embraced Lucania as well. Campania was included after ...
