Surname Faraldo

Post by rectob »

I am looking into my roots and have had very little success. My origional family name was Faraldo, but for reasons unknown it was changed to Coach. My great grandfather immigrated (emigrated?) to the New York State area before moving to Manitoba in Canada. His name was Fraco Faraldo but he changed it to Frank Coach. Anyone who has any information on the surname and where in Italy we may have come from, it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum!
We'd be happy to help, but we need a few more
details.
family names, approx birth years, locations, etc
If we can find some US/Canadian records for your
family we may be able to backtrack to your
town of origin.
Thanks!

Original Italian first name was probably Franco or Francesco.

However, vj is correct. There are more than 70 Faraldos who cme through Ellis Island. We need more info to help.

Dear rectob first things first..Faraldo is not listed in the Italian surname dictionary so it is either imported from abroad or local in origin. The www.familysearch.org website leans heavily on its Spanish origin with Spain leading the list, some Chile and Argentina too and southern Italy.

Further if you go to www.last-names.net/surname.asp you can get a free 14 day subscription to a surname description of Faraldo dating back to the 16th century, and other research venues.

The surname distribution map for Italy centers the surname i n Campania and Basilicata and the rest of Italy I surmise were emigrants from that area. The website is www.gens.labo.net just in case this site escaped your attention. =Peter=

Is it possible he using Faraldo as his middle name? it's hard to

Again...thanks for your help everyone. Not much is know of our family back then. I beleive there were issues with my great granddad and his children and not much was spoken of it growing up.

Confirmed so far:
Franco Faraldo is the known name. Have now confirmed he changed it to Frank Faraldo (or Farald) Coach. Moved to Manitoba. His wife was Katherine or Katie. She was Irish. Last name Rafter I beleive. This is all I have for sure. I don't speak italian so that makes it a bit harder to search...lol.

I think in 1920 according to some records, he was 31 and his wife was 28. That puts his date of birth around 1889.

Again...any help you give is appreciated.

That would explain why no Frank on Ellis Island, he was born here. but, vj, where do you find records for someone who immigrated so early? They are not on Castle Garden. :?
