Antonina Accardo

Post by johnlabarbera »

Trying to determine more information on my great grandmother Antonina Accardo, here is what I know....

Married Giorgio Gigliotta, son of Nicolo Gigliotta, from Sambuca, Agrigento, Sicily on 15 Feb 1903.

Giorgio was born abt 1885 - died on 1 Aug 1944 in Beaumont Texas.

Edit: Giorgio's death record was found and it states the following:
Born 25 Sep 1882
Parents were Cola Gigliotta and Josephine ?
Survied by brothers Alex and Cola both in Chicago, Ill

She went by the name Lena.

She died on 8 Apr 1969 in Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas

We believe she was born in Italy, not sure where. The legend is that she was on the boat with Giorgio to the USA, and that is when he first saw her but she was too young to marry.

Edit : She had a sister named Nancy Marie

Do not have any other info on her but plan to get copy of death certificate and also look for additional marriage and obit info.

Peter, yes I researched Ellis Island records and ancestry.com, but the young Antonina's arrivals dates don't match up with the wedding date of 15 Feb 1903 stated in my initial post, that is a solid date I found the record, and they were married in Patterson LA where they gave birth to my grandmother Elizabeth.

Thanks vj, this is the correct family and puts Antonina/Lena as being born about 1888. We know she was very young when she married, so this would make her 15 +/-. I found the church (St. Joseph's) today in Patterson, LA and they confirmed that they have her marriage record and we plan to get that sent to us as soon as they get back from Mardi Gras holiday. I am hopefull this will give us her parents and siblings names. :D :D

:D :D :D :D :D

We found obituary info from Beaumont TX funeral home on Antonina today, here it what it says:

Her parents are Joseph Accardo and Josephine Bruno. Antonina's birthday is listed as 28 Sept 1887.

My mother says she also thinks Antonina's siblings were:

Nunzia? Maria? (Nancy Marie) who married Anthony Ippolito, Beaumont TX
Carlos? who married Jenny ( we think he lived in Rockford Ill)
Katie? who married to Joe Cantello, lived in Beaumont, TX
Josephine who married Nick Bennett, lived in Calumet City, Illinois
