Looking for Family of DeMasi and Falzarano in or near Naples

Post by michaelgd »

I am looking for the family of my maternal grandfather, Raffaele DeMasi. His parents were Pietro DeMasi and Maddalena Falzarano. They lived in or near Naples. They were both born in the late 1850s (he: around 1857 and she: around 1858). The town I have is Airola, Benevento, Italy. My grandfather, Raffaele, came to the US in the early 1900s and married a Theresa Tomasella or Tomaselli, who was born in the Bronx, NY. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum,

I don't know if you have this, but it may be Raffaele's manifest.

A little about the comune of Airola.

http://en.comuni-italiani.it/062/001/index.html

The Family History Center has the civil records for Airola from 1809 to 1860.

Wow, how did I never think to look under DiMasi with an "I?" I could not find him, and actually had given up. That's why my question pertained to his parents in Italy. But this is very good that you found this entry. The fact that I never mentioned Raffaele's DOB makes your discovery even more remarkable. He was born in 1881 and the Raffaele in this manifest is 20 years old in 1901! Very good. I will now read the rest of the replies to this message as they look good at first glance! Thanks so much!

Yes, I do remember finding the manifest for Pietro and Falzarano. I just couldn't find the one for grandpa as they had his name misspelled. Thanks much, folks.

Biff:

Did you forget to include a link to the second manifest for Pietro? I do remember seeing something about his coming here twice. Now that you mention it, it does sound familiar.

Hi Mike,

The manifest I mentioned for Pietro is for his second trip and is the same as the one MJ (misbris) posted. Still looking for the manifest for his first trip.

Meanwhile, here's a 1920 manifest for a third trip.
Page 1
Page 2
Closest relative in Italy--brother Pasquale

The numbers before "Bronx" are the death certificate numbers--636 for Maddalena and 7029 for Pietro--which will help if you'd like to request copies.
