Surname - Illarietti

Post by pamann722 »

I'm looking for my grandfather's descendants that were from Vervio I believe. I have very few leads and only know that he had a mother and 2 sisters from an old photo. I need to find his father's name, his mothers maiden name and his sister's names. Is the name "Illarietti" familiar to anyone in this region? Vervio/Sondrio/Lombardy

Hi and welcome to the forum,

As you can see from the following website, the name is rare and appears mostly in Lombardy.

http://www.gens.labo.net/en/cognomi/genera.html

This site shows you in what towns in Lombardy there are still Illarietti

http://italia.indettaglio.it/eng/cognomi/cognomi.html

Do you have your grandfather's manifest? That should contain some info on his family.

Here are all the Illarietti I found so far. I don't know your grandfather's first name, so I posted them all. Most went to CA.

You can click on each to display the manifest. Let us know if one of them is correct.

I found this at the Ellis Island site as well. My grandfather's name was Anthony, born in 1903, so I think this Antonio could be his father or uncle.
I can't find any Illarietti's in the US at all. My grandfather died in Los Angels at age 34 from a car accident. My mother was only 5 at the time.
I know of no other relatives anywhere. Any other avenues you can suggest? I appreciate your responses.

Mary Joy was my mom who recently passed away as well as my grandmother, Emma, 40 years ago. Unfortunately there were very few records or information on my grandfather. Thank you. I didn't realize that women kept their maiden names back then. I will now be searching for information on Maria Mitta as well.

It doesn't mean she "kept" her maiden name... the document may have asked for the maiden name...

To clarify,
I told Pam that Italian women would probably appear under their maiden names because that was (and is) the custom in Italy. I was referring to Italian documents, not American ones.

If Antonio was meeting his father Antonio in the US, this must be your ggfather's manifest.

http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0018

It is unusual for father and son to have the same 1st name.
