Help. Family in Sicily.

Post by Alfioce »

I was wonderin if anyone could help me find information about my family. I am very new to this site. My father was actually born in Sicily. He believes we are related to a famous general from Italy but he cannot remember exactly who. My fathers name is Salvo Celia. My grandmother and grandfather were Concetta and Alfio Celia (I was named after him). They lived in a city near Catania, Sicily. I believe it was Santa Maria di Licodia. Thank you for all your help.

Try looking on

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... umns=*,0,0

Put the name of the town in the PLACE box and click SEARCH. There are church and civil records for Santa Maria di Licodia.

You'll see catalog numbers for microfilm housed at the Family History Center in SLC Utah and run by the Mormon church. Go to your nearest Mormon church to request the microfilm...take it to a library and prepare to spend hours scouring it for your ancestors. (By the way, there is a nominal charge, ~$6, for each film.)

By the way Santa Maria di Licodia is west of Catania near the Mt Etna Regional Park between Paterno and Biancavilla. You can search for it on http://maps.google.com.

Slight correction

Not all LDS churches are Family History Centers (FHC's). Here is the link for you to find a center near you..........
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

Films are not allowed to be taken from an FHC to view somewhere else (like a library).
