Looking for info Attilio Praolini

Post by Lizp »

Attilio Praolini was my husbands grandfather. there is alot of mystery surrounding him. He told his son that he came from Bern Switzerland but I have (I think) his naturalization papers that state he was born in Tirano on 22/08/1886.
He appears to have been adopted by Arthur Manuel at the age of 10 and ? lived in Bournemouth England.
When he married in 1920 his name was Attilio Praolini Aurelio and his father is Giacomio (? spelling) Praolini Aurelio. When he died he is registered under the name Praoline, Attilis A. + Harry Praoline
When his son was born the surname was Praolin - it is now Praoline
I would be grateful of any thoughts of where to go next tracing this line of my husbands family
Thank you

Thanks Suanj
We think this is him but are at a loss when it comes to his naturalisation papers and it clearly states he was born in Tirano the only think we think could be that he left Tirano as a young child and lived in Switzerland before coming to the UK and being adopted at the age of 10 - maybe he was told he was swiss but then he would have had to given the info to get UK citizenship so I don't know. The other possibilty is that he was put on the cenus as Swiss because of the Jorimanns
I have unfortunately become alittle obsessed with this and would love to get to the bottom of it -
Thanks

Hi Liz,

There is one sure way to find out if he was born in Tirano (for sure) or not. The LDS have microfilm for Tirano and the film you would need for his birth is.............

Nati 1866-1886 FHL INTL Film 2140160 Items 3 - 6

Locate a family history center (fhc) and go in to order the film. Here is the link to locate a center..........
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

If you have questions, post back and someone on the forum can help out.

Hi Liz,

The name Praolini occurs almost exclusively in northern Lombardy, in and around the city of Sondrio. There are 35 persons of that surname listed in the pagine bianche.

The town of Tirano is right on the Italian / Swiss border, so Attilio might have considered himself to be Swiss, depending on where exactly he was born.

Hope this is of help.
