Thank you so much Valarie. I am trying to trace my grandparents genealogy, so I am very interested in the Italian records, however, I would also appreciate the Oregon records. We know some of the Oregon history, but you provided me info I did not know, ie the months and days of death. I am very new at this, so would appreciate any and ALL help. The pictures on ancestry.com are not mine, but maybe someone else posted them, I will check that out. Again, thanks so much, and will appreciate anything you could post!

We'll all be happy to help!
It appears that there were two James Beoletto's in Oregon at the same time, born only a few years apart.
There will be several records coming in a bit, please feel free to take your time reviewing them.
It can get overwhelming when the posts start.
Don't worry we'll help you sort them out.

This WWI Card is close to the birth date on the tree on ancestry.
It may not be the correct ‘James’
Other records (census, etc) may confirm the address.
Nearest relative - Edith. Since James didn't fill out the card himself, he may
have been misunderstood?

From ancestry.com
possible 1920 census

Note: not everything matches the 1930 census.
A lot depended upon who gave the information to the enumerator,
their knowledge or memory of the ‘facts’ and sometimes their ability
to make themselves understood.

Home in January 1920:
Farm
Newsom, Crook, Oregon

Head James Beoletto 37, abt 1883 IT
- immig 1903, Naturalized 1918
- farmer, general farm
Wife Ida Beoletto 30, abt 1890 IT
- immig 1911
Son John Beoletto 9, abt 1911 OR
Daughter Floris (Flora) Beoletto 7, abt 1913 WA
Daughter Leana (Lena) Beoletto 5, abt 1915 OR

Sorting out the correct manifest(s) may be a challenge for Giacomo (born 16 Oct 1883):

The other Giacomo ‘James’ Beoletto was also from Piasco
His SSDI from FamilySearch (free site)
James BEOLETTO
Birth Date: 11 Jul 1885
Death Date: Aug 1967
Social Security Number: 542-05-xxxx
State or Territory Where Number Was Issued: Oregon
Death Residence Localities ZIP Code: 97051
Localities: Saint Helens, Columbia, Oregon St Helens, Columbia, Oregon

Tracking down Giacomo's (b. 1883) Naturalization paperwork, probably
in Oregon, should confirm which ship's manifest is his

A possible ship manifest from Ellis Island - free site, requires registration

1902 manifest

Note: quite a few young men on the manifest from Piasco are headed to Portland
(Piasco, comune (municipality) in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont Region
located about 60 km southwest of Turin)

Arrival 16 Mar 1902
SS La Gascogne
Port of Havre to New York
Line 15

Beoletto, Giacomo 19 (abt 1882)
- single
- last residence Piasco
- destination Portland, Oregon
- has $40
- meeting no one

Another note: a clearer image from ancestry.com indicates that Giacomo’s
name is lined off. On the far right the notation is that he was 'not on board'.

Thanks again Valarie. The James Beoletto with the relative "Edith" does have near the same birthdate, but don't know who Edith is. Other than spelling of names, most of this information is correct, ie my mother's name was Lena, not Leana, and my aunt was Flora, not Floris. This info is all so very exciting! I need to get my grandparents birth records etc from Italy. Can you tell me the best way to do that?

Thanks again, Sandy

Hey Sandy,
I was lucky enough to be able to get my family's records on
microfilm from my local Family History Center.
It looks like they haven't filmed Piasco yet, so we'll need to get you an
address to write to.
Are you sure about Turin for your grandmother? All Italian rcords are kept
in the comune.

Probable son John’s birth record from ancestry.com
A common misspelling for Ida’s last name
Older script ’T’ is often mis-transcribed as a ’C’

Very helpful for placing your grandparents in Washington near Thurston County in 1910.

Washington Births, 1907-1919

Name: John Beoletto
Birth Date: 14 Dec 1910
Location: Thurston
Sex: Male
Race: White
Father's Name: James Beoletto
Mother's Name: Ida Caricco
Image Filename: 1121
---

And Flora’s record places the family near King County in 1912
(another mis-transcription of names)

Name: Flora Antonia Bolatto
Birth Date: 10 Apr 1912
Location: Seattle
Sex: Female
Race: White
Father's Name: James Bolatto
Mother's Name: Edna Tarricco
Image Filename: 1121

Hi Valarie, thanks again. One of the few things I do have is the ship manifest for when grandad arrived in Ellis Island. And yes, they did live here in Oregon. In fact, the ranch is still in the family. So we do have a lot of the Oregon information, however not as detailed as some of the records you are sending. My uncle John just never wanted to talk about these things, and I have only one aunt still living, but she doesn't remember a lot and/or never did know, so your help is so appreciated. I guess the main thing I need now is the best way to get birth record information for both James and Ida. My aunt is sure her mother was from Turin (Torino). So, I look forward to any new info you may have, and I so appreciate your help.

Sandy,
I'm glad we could find some records for you.

Here's a great interactive form letter that many of us have used.
http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... civile.asp

The address you'll type in will be
Comune of: Piasco
CAP Code: 12026
Provincial Abbreviation: CN
(Don't forget to include 'Italy' on your envelope  )

Other volunteers may have other suggestions tomorrow.

Valarie
