looking for my great grandfather...

Post by mirko »

hi everyone, my name is Mirko i'm from Emilia Romagna, Italy.
I'm 32 years old, well, first i start my story, is there someone that can speak italian??? my english is not very good.

anyway, i have found great grandfather informations only a few nonths ago, my family and i don't knew anything on him, so now we would like to know many other informations on him.

well, i can say:

Montesi Nazareno

he arrived in N.Y. the 29th of june 1913, i saw that in Ellis Island site

he worked in bourgh of Alpha N.J. - Alpha cement factory, is possible???

he lived in Phillipsburg, N.J. - he died in the same town the fourth of july 1920 - (Warren county)

he was buried in cemetery of Alpha the sixth of july 1920 - death certificate n° 4174

i think i have many informations, but first i go to New Jersey, i would like to know if is there in u.s.a. any associations that could help me, or where i should go to take the object of my great grand father, in particulary the documents or passport of him or other things that he did have.

i hope i have written well enough...

" if i can help some italian/american people in u.s.a. for serching of relatives in italy, there is no problem"

thank you all, too mutch, good bye.

Could this possibly be a relative?

MARIA MONTESI
01 Jul 1881
Mar 1969 07863
(Oxford, Warren, NJ)
154-12-5605 New Jersey

It is a social security death record.

For reference,
Nazarino's manifest.

Hi everybody..
wow, a plenty of fast answers, thank you very much to all...

to peter: if you want we can speak italian language...

thank you also to misbris, i don't know if you can or want speak italian, anyway, i have rather wrote in italian language for now.
-Maria Montesi shouldn't be a relative of Nazareno Montesi, anyway i hope to find many informations that i can, so that i could leave more safe in my-self..
may i make a question ??
you are american both??

thank you a lot...
see you soon, bye.

=Peter=

I am also an American of Italian decent. All my grandparents were from Campania. I can understand Italian and read a little, but to speak I only know dialect. I am trying to learn more Italian, so it is okay for you to use Italian. I will ask if I don't understand what you are saying.

Did your bisnonna come to America? I see on the manifest her name was Ersilia. Cognome ?

I found another manifest. Is this another trip for you bisnonno?

I know this is very strange, but I think this is Nazarino (with a very badly spelled last name) in the 1920 census.

Surname GivenName Age Sex Race Birthplace State County Location Year

GUNNPIES NAZARINO 28 M W ITAL NJ WARREN ALPHA BORO 1920

I don't have access to Ancestry, so maybe vj or someone else could post the actual census. It is worth a look.

Nazareno Montesi was born in 1871 and died in July 1920 at age 49 and apparently died in Phillipsburgh, in Warren County NJ. The 1920 census which VJ so kindly sent was takenin January 1920 when he was still alive but the census does not have any record of him on the page..from what I can see. =Peter=

=Peter=

Caro/a (?) =Peter=

RE: 1920 Census

The last entry on 128 Seventh Avenue is for a boarder whose first name is Nazarino and whose last name is horribly garbled. Alpha was a tiny, tiny, town so I don't think there were many residents with the name Nazareno. It looks like he was a pit man in a foundry. That is why I want Mriko to look at the entry.

Wrong age for the Nazareno..He is listed at age 28 while the Nazareno Montesi was aged 49 at time of census in january 1920 and who died in July of that year. I did not think it worthy of mention because of the age discrepancy. =Peter=
