Maria [Mary] Trombatore
Born: Jan. 10, 1884
Corleone, Province of Palermo, Sicily

She would have arrived in New Orleans, LA

Would appreciate any Help at all.

WOW, I have been looking for information on my Grandmother's ship for quite some time and you two got it in a matter of minutes. Thank you so much.
Have a couple of questions:
Riccardo: Thank you for sending a list of micofilm on the arrivals to New Orleans, where can I rent these Microfilm?

Laura: Thank you for the Passenger List. Cannot believe what I am seeing, In looking over the list, is it possible that her mother Giovanna was using her maiden name [Farrara], also some of the siblings are not the ones I have on my Family Tree. But I will check them out on the Census, could be cousins, you think?

Thank you both so much

Mardi,

in Italy women keep their maiden name even if married, so it is normal to find Giovanna travelling under her maiden name...
About the children I can say that for example the first one Paolo has another letter before Paolo, it seems an F, maybe he was Francesco Paolo?
then Maria and Salvatrice (two females) and Giovanni (male)...
It was common that people decided to change their italian names just to americanize them..
Do you have any censuses of the family?

Thank you both again.

Riccardo, I'll see if my local Library can help me with this.

Laura, On my Tree I have as my Grandmother sblings and their birth year: Giovanna [?], Luca [Luke} [1878], Franco [Frank] [1882], Theresa [1887] and Jennie [1890]. Information on her siblings were taken from obits. Yes, I do have Censuses, I have been getting them from Ancestry.com

Thanks a bunch, to you both.

You're welcome Mardi... here you can find many persons who are very glad to help... :D

I think this is your grandmother 1900 census:

1900 United States Federal Census
about Juana Trombatore
Name: Juana Trombatore possible Giovanna?
[Juan Trombatore]
Home in 1900: Police Jury Ward 5, Assumption, Louisiana
Age: 42
Birth Date: May 1858
Birthplace: Italy
Race: White
Ethnicity: American
Immigration Year: 1896
Relationship to head-of-house: Mother
Father's Birthplace: Italy
Mother's Birthplace: Italy
Mother: number of living children: 6
Mother: How many children: 6
Marriage Year: 1878
Marital Status: Widowed
Years Married: 22
Residence : Labadie, Upper Texas Towns & Little Texas Plantation, Assumption, Louisiana
Occupation: View Image
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Luke Ficaro 32
Biaza Ficaro 24
Luke Ficaro 2
Charlie Ficaro 2.12
Juana Trombatore 42 born in IT, on May 1858
Francisca Trombatore 17 male, born in IT in June 1882 (F Paolo on the arrival manifest)
Sarvatriche Trombatore 12 female, born in IT on Apr. 1888, Salvatrice on the arrival manifest... I think this is Theresa
Juvanina Trombatore 10 female, born in IT on March 1890, Giovanni (male) on the manifest but possible it was a writing error... possible she's Jennie
Cosima Trombatore 1 born in LA, on January 1899....

On this census she is listed as mother... but as the head was Luke Ficaro, born in Italy on 1878 I don't think she was his mother... maybe she was the mother of Luke's wife Biagia?
If you look well the page 1 of the census manifest you'll find a Luke Trombatore (just a few lines above) born on january 1878 in Italy... maybe he was his first son?

1900 census page 1:

Thank you for the 1900 Census, I think it is my GGrandmohter's Census. My Grandmother married in 1899 to my Grandfather Giuseppi [Joseph] Calamusa. She was 15 and he was 29 years of age. I found the 1930 Census on them but have not come across the 1900 1910 or 1920. I know that the were living Labadieville "Little Texas Plantation", LA.

You have been a trememdous help.

Thank you for pulling up the 1910 Census....you are right, it is a little tough to read. Thank you for translating for me. They have to be cousin. Now I will find a spot for them on my tree. They were also on "Little Texas Plantation" Labadieville, LA

By the 1910 Census my granparents had five children, the other seven were born in New Orleans, LA

Children of GIUSEPPI [JOSEPH] CALAMUSA and MARIA TROMBATORE born Labadievile, LA are:
CATERINA [CATIE]3 CALAMUSA, b. October 21, 1900
GIOVANNA [JENNIE] CALAMUSA, b. October 11, 1902.
MARY[Concietta] CALAMUSA, b. August 25, 1904,
MARCHION [MARSHALL] LOUIS CALAMUSA, b. August 18, 1906,
MARIA ANNA CALAMUSA, b. April 05, 1909,
Thank you for the information.

Re: Looking for help locating Sierchio Family on Mainifest 1

Post by Ginasnow »

Hello everyone,

I am stuck on my quest to find my ancestors on any ship manifests. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I am a newbie to this only 3 years in. My gg-grandfather's name was Gaetano Sierchio from Santomenna, Salerno Italy. He was born 1in 1867. His naturalization records state he immigrated in 1887. On his first trip he came alone. On his second trip he came in 1890 with his wife Donata Dicorcia Sierchio (she was called Anna here),and thier toddler daughter Mary. Any help is so appreciated. I can be directly emailed at Snottygirl96@yahoo.com.

Thank you.
