The surname Ciaparra is not found in the Italian surname dictionary and is not a local surname in Italy as well, however the surname is found in Corsica and there is a listing for a Jean Ciappara dated September 27, 1874 marrying a Pompeani in Alata, South Corsica, france. =Peter=

I did find two persons whose surname is CHIAPPARA in Sardinia. Go to www.paginebianche.it and put in Chiappara inthe first line and beneath that inthe second line put in SARDEGNA and click CERCA. If you think you will want to contact these people, please let me know. =Peter=

Dear Laura isn't it interesting that these "island" surnames seem to be interconnected in the Mediterranean. Somehow I like to think they stem from Cartheginians. Maybe someday someone who has done a study of the island surnames will furnish us with a history of these island people. Good talking to you. =peter=

In Italian the word CIAPPAor CIAPPOLA means a chisel used for graving. Most likely Ciappara would be someone who uses this object.=Peter=
