Post by StarV579 »

My great grandfathers name was Isaia Veltre and he was born in Bagnara Italy in 1896. He married a (Prosceno) actually it was Maria Prosceno in Wilmington, Delaware. I cannot find any information on isaia Veltre's family and didn't know if anyone out there could help me out?

Thanks any information would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to IG!!

So that we don't duplicate research already done, it's nice to have some feedback...
Are you looking for US records or Italian? What documents have you located so far? Manifest, census, naturalization, ect.
I did take a quick look and located his WW1 registration.
Do you have this record?

thank you very much for your intrest. I have not located any record of him coming over from Italy, that would be through Ellis Island. I am nearly one hundred percent sure thats how he arrived in this country.

He said he came over with five brothers.. but I cant find any records...

So I am looking for Isaia Veltre ; a record in Italian, probably microfilm. He is from Bagnara, campanina, Italy. and I was told to write the municipality of Sant'Angelo a Cupolo.

and be charged 250 blah!

So I found Isaia's draft registration card, from Wimington Delaware through ancestry.com

and thats end no parents, nothing dead end from there.

any help or ideas are GREATLY appreciated!

thanks again

I do have access to the World subscription, but I see that Vj has provided the information. Not much to be had in way of information on the manifest...... :?

I am wondering if given the birthdate provided by poster, 1896,
which is consistent with both draft registrations as well as SSDI data....
and the theory that he immigrated around 1910.....his age would be about
13, 14.....perhaps he and his brothers came thru with a relative, and he is listed under that surname. Another possibility, he came thru with a parent and could be listed as figli, figlio.

I did run thru some manifest last night, and the following names all pertain to the area of interest:
ANGELO
CHRISTOPHER
DANIEL
DAVID
EMIDDIO
EMILIO
JULIUS JOHN
ORESTI
WILLIAM

These are found in New Jersey, Deleware and Pennsylvania.

Have you sent for SSDI application? Checked for naturalization record?
Do you know if he attended a specific church?

No way......Since you have it narrowed down to two towns of interest,
you know his full name, and his birthdate, (although parents name would be very helpful) send the following interactive form letter, very simple to use. Send no money unless you recieve notice requesting payment. Include your email with your address. Can't hurt, might help!

Letter

I cannot thank all of you enough... I mean it is so gracious of all of you to reply with help so quickly Please let me know if i can be of any help to any of you!!!!!

I will check out each lead and come back

thank you a million times!

how do I send for a SSDI application? and your right maybe the ww1 and ww2 draft registrations are not correct.

here's something strange

my grandfather told me that our last name Veltre, used to be Velletri

that it had changed when he immigrated to the US

I also know that Isaia Veltre married Mary Prosceno when he came to Delaware.

One of Isaia's brothers may possibly be by the name of Harry

and it is possible
that Isaias mother and fathers name could be

Giovanni Veltre
and Lisetta Pennisi

still can't find any records of either

thanks for your help

I said they were consistent, meaning all birthdates found so far are the same.

Important clues! Gives members something more to go on. Pink is very good at finding manifest, and perhaps Vj can place them on a census!!

Hi all!
I agree with Laura & wldspirit, the 1930 census for Harry & Mary Veltre (listed above
in two places  ) may be your Isaia, occupation barber (same as 1918 WWI Card).
The Veltre family may be living with Mary’s brother (?) Frank Prosceno and his family at 907 West Second Street.

Note: based on a recent obituary, the children of Isaia Veltre and Mary Prosceno Veltre were:
Joanne, Concetta, Anna, John, Francis, Yolanda, Josephine, Elizabeth and Anthony.
Is this correct?

Thanks! Valarie
