searching for Cavarretta family connection

Post by nunz »

Hi, I joined this site on the 16/02/2008 and posted a message looking for information about my family surname Cavarretta, supplying all the information I had gathered so far on my grandparents. Due to circumstances, I was not able to follow this up.

As I am not good with computer systems, how do I go back to about that date on this site to check if there has been any replies to my request for help? Or would it be better to post another message for help on this forum?

thanks Nunz

Hey nunz!
It appears your original message may not have been posted.
To check, click on the 'profile button' at the end of your message
(above). Then click 'Find all posts by nunz'.
You'll probably have to post again (on this thread is OK)
- just click 'post reply', when you're done don't forget to hit 'submit  '
Don't worry, it happens to everyone now & then.

thanks for that advice VJ

Since I last posted that query, I've done some reading and have worked out that I can send a letter to one of the comunes in Sicily requesting details on my grandparents etc but need a bit of help to confirm where to send it and what to ask for.

So far, I've gathered the following information:
my grandfather was: Gaspare Cavarretta, born about 1891 in Ficarazzi, Palermo, Sicily.
He was married to Nunzia Cassano, about 1924 or 1925 and died on June 4, 1954 in Palermo, Sicily.
His parents were Vito Cavarretta and Rosa Muce' and he had 2 brothers, Vito and Pietro (not sure of their dates of birth).

I wanted to obtain the date of birth of my grandfather and the date of birth of his parents - would it be best to ask for his birth certificate or a Certificate of family status (Certificato di Stato di Famiglia)?

The 3 addresses I have found to send a letter to I got through the Italian white pages - they are:
- Comune di Ficarazzi, Corso Umberto 1 412, 90010 Ficarazzi (PA), Sicily
- Comune di Ficarazzi, Corso Umberto 1 452, 90010 Ficarazzi (PA), Sicily
- Comune di Ficarazzi, Cortile Giallombardo, 90010 Ficarazzi (PA), Sicily

I'm not sure how accurate they are but I would appreciate some help with this

thanks Nunz

Dear Nuna the letters you are sending have to be in Italian so go to www.cicolocalabrese.org for form letters in Italian. =Peter=

SWhould be www.circolocalabrese.org. You will wait about 6-8 weeks and the service is free but you might wish to consider seinding a self addressed enveliope with $5-10.00 for poorly paid clerks who research records as an end of day duty. =Peter=
