Rubertone family, Basilicata?

Post by mark04ox »

Hi everyone,

I am looking for information (place of birth in particular, but any information at all) about the following individuals:

Gerardo Rubertone, born 1852, married to:
Maria Rubertone (possibly nee Azata), born between 1838 and 1842

Rocco Louis (Luigi?) Rubertone, born 1869--father Michele, born Oct 1827, mother Maria, born Aug 1838. Married to:
Felicia Maria Rubertone (nee Colasurdo), born 1874--father Prospero, mother Carmella.

Rocco and Felicia immigrated to the USA in 1892 and married after their arrival. Gerardo and Maria immigrated around 1886. I have some information about Felicia, but at the moment I really need information about Gerardo, Maria and Rocco. As far as I know, Gerardo and Rocco weren't closely related, though they share the surname.

From what I can tell so far, the surname Rubertone was most common in a few villages/towns: Craco, San Fele, Ruvo del Monte, and Castelpagano. Having consulted the Craco Society, who have a copy of the 1857 Craco census, it seems my ancestors did not come from Craco. But I have no idea whether they came from San Fele, Ruvo del Monte, Castelpagano, or somewhere else.

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks very much!

What have collected so far in way of US records?
Have you checked for naturalization records?

I am currently waiting for responses about naturalization records from 2 agencies (already got a no records found from one agency). I've looked through census data and what I could find of passenger records from Ellis Island and the other one or two that are available online (didn't find anything conclusive there). I have put out feelers to see if there are any family records but nothing has come back so far.

Thanks!

Will see if I can locate anything other than the 1900 census,
which shows both Rocco and Gerado living next door to one another,
and both have been naturalized.

I have the 1900 through 1930 censuses, they did indeed live next door to each other--a couple of their children later married. I think Gerardo may not actually have been naturalized, because the 1910 census lists him as alien and the 1930 census lists him as having requested papers for naturalization (I can't find him on the 1920 census). So I am guessing the 1900 census was in error.

Was hoping something would turn up in way of naturalization records thru Footnote.com, they sometimes have the actual document image.
Didn't locate anything for Rocco or Gerardo.
If you haven't already, send for the marriage records of Gerard's
first three children: Joseph, Dec. 1878, Mary, Aug. 1882, and Tony,
Oct. 1883. They list on the 1900 census that they were born in Italy.
Perhaps the marriage application will list the exact town of birth.
