Salvatore Nigrelli & Vincenza Maida

Post by Romano1970 »

Looking for information about Vincenza Maida. Born Jan 12th 1903 Musomelli Sicily. She Came to this country I believe around 1918 to 1920.

She marrierd my great uncle Salvatore Nigrelli (born june 22 1890) once in America. Once she married my uncle I understand she went by jennie as well.

Any imformation on either of these people will be of great help. Parents of both , what their steps were before they met eachother here in America. Did they become citizens of america?

Dear Michael,
if you want to know the parents names of Vincenza Maida born in Mussomeli on 12 Jan 1903, I suggest you to rent the microfilms from FHL

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... ato+civile++

this is the microfilm you need

Nascite 1890-1910 FHL INTL Film
1963946

or write, only in italian, in order to have her birth certificate stating parents names to

Comune
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Piazza della Repubblica
CAP 93014
Mussomeli - CL - Italy
Fax 01139 0934-991227
info@comune.mussomeli.cl.it (no spaces)

If you want to know if she eventually applied for US citizenship, you can check with USCIS/ Homeland Security in Lee's Summit, MO, filling out the g-639 form. It takes a long time (about 9 to 17 months for them to reply) but for sure it is worth.

You can also check with 1920 and 1930 US census if they ever naturalized

Is this your Salvatore Nigrelli? was he from Mussomeli too?

I hope it helps
bye Riccardo

According to Salvatore’s military & census records in the US he lived in Passaic NJ
Here’s a possible ship manifest for Vincenza and her family in 1918

Mother Vincenza Pennice (b 1882), father Vincenzo Maida

Hi VJ. How have you been.

Concerning the manifest I believe that is the correct person. I do notice that it looks like she came accross with her family. The person above her seems to be her mother. Do you agree?? If so do you also agree that the father does not seem to be on the page??

Val,
I was one reply behind you. Yep that also seems to be Vincenzo's Manifest. Wow he came accross almost two whole years earlier. That seems to be the norm back then right. The head of household would come over and set up shop so to speak and then once situated, the family came over.
